Rutgers Scarlet Knights (official troll of PedSU)

So if I were coaching a youth baseball team and had some kids scared of getting hit in the batters box can I plunk them until they learn to not bail out and close their eyes or not. Not a fan of putting a bat behind them to trip over like when I was that age. A good session of the coach beaning you at an age appropriate speed always seemed best to me.

Dick move or teaching valuable lessons about fear?

I'd always transition to learning to bunt with your glove and then bat from there if it helps my case.

Someone made a point to me in a PM that I thought was interesting;

I went through this kind of stuff, and worse, as an athlete and soldier. It really didn't bother me.

As a middle aged parent if I saw someone even come close to this level of behavior with one of my kids I would go berserk.

I thought about this myself. I would go berserk if it was my 10 year old. With my 20 year old? He is an adult he can figured it out on his own.

Then again I told my 10 year old's basketball coach if he gave him any problems he had my permission to slap him up side the head!

Quite honestly I am surprised it too that long to surface. He is lucky some kid did not let his emotions get away from him (unlike the coach) and floor him. The flooring would have been deserved and probably applauded.

As a coach, there is a difference between being tough minded and being an idiot.

This is my take and after 30+ years of coaching football and baseball-your kids will quit on you if you cross that like. This is true for athletes and any level.
Counterproductive.

Phil Martelli's son.

At the least, he was an assistant coach under Mike Rice and can say he was worried about losing his job (or something). Maybe his dad can give him (Jimmy Martelli) a basketball ops job at St. Joe's to try to rehab.

Since Tim Pernetti's about to resign/be fired by Rutgers, according to Tara Sullivan of the Bergen Record (heard on the "Dan Patrick Show"), would you:

Take Pernetti over Gene Smith?

But seriously, I guess at least Rutgers is holding parties accountable.

There are a ton of shady characters in AAU, but I don't think Mike Rice would go that route.

A high-level college team (Top 30) won't take the hit and allow him to recruit for them (as an assistant) within the next 1-2 years. So he'll either have to wait 1-2 years or go to a mid-level (as an assistant).

No NBA experience, so he probably won't go there.

Will President Barchi be next?

Unless Chris Christie says something, I don't think he'll be part of this thing. He might be on thin ice (with the Trustees), but not to the point where he'll be fired or forced to leave.

Faculty have issues with school presidents in a lot of situations.
