We lived near the Rutgers campus in the early 2000's; one night we were driving through it and stopped for pizza (I think, it was dinner nonetheless). The guy went on to explain it was the STD University capital of the country.

I don't know if it is true, or that it has any real significance to any conversation. But, there it is.

Jersey is a tiny state. Everything is close by relatively speaking when you consider it from the perspective of a midwesterner. It generally takes less than an hour and a half to drive from Philadelphia to Manhattan.

Piscataway is in the northern half in what is the NY sports market; a stones throw from Staten Island. It's well away from Atlantic City and Wildwood, which are in the SE corner and probably the best known travel/resort destinations.

Jersey Shore I believe is filmed in Seaside Heights, which is in the middle of the state in Ocean County.
