RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

The best Saine highlight from HS that I've seen (which, of course, I can't find now) was of him as an outside gunner on the kickoff team. He ran down the near sideline covering his lane, the returner hit a seam right down the middle and had a wide open field in front of him. Saine looped around to the middle and closed the 15-20 yard lead to make the tackle. I've never seen anything quite like it. Shows what a complete football player he is.

I remember the highlight your talking about. The closing speed was really sick, he made up 15 yard in the blink of an eye. Showed has unreal speed.

I was in the stadium for that one... the most unbelievable play I've ever seen in person. It was against Troy too so it was even more special.

Ohio State football: Depth chart shows Saine likely out
by Doug Lesmerises
Monday August 25, 2008

The Buckeyes released their depth chart today as part of the pregame notes for Saturday's opener against Youngstown State. And, not surprisingly, Joe Bauserman is listed as the first backup behind starter Todd Boeckman.

Meanwhile, Saine, who has been battling a hamstring injury for virtually all of preseason camp, is not part of the depth chart at running back. Behind starting tailback Beanie Wells, redshirt freshman Dan Herron is listed as the backup and senior Maurice Wells is the No. 3 tailback.

Saine is however, listed as one of the kick returners, along with Herron. It's safe to say that the Buckeyes are being careful with him, though. No reason to push a fast guy with a hamstring issue.

On Friday, running backs coach Dick Tressel said that Saine was behind, but said he'd be back healthy by Saturday.

"It hurts. I don't know how much it will hurt. I think it hurts you as an athlete to feel a little unprepared," Tressel said of the practice time Saine has missed.

"I think he will be 100 percent on the health side," Tressel said, "but he won't be 100 percent on the preparation that goes along with being out there sloshing around, running the plays, having the ball in your hands and reacting to the speed that's on the field."

Saine working way back from injury

By Doug Harris
Staff Writer

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Brandon Saine is expected to make a significant impact at Ohio State this season, but the sophomore running back from Piqua probably won't have a major role on offense in the opener against Youngstown State on Saturday.
Saine suffered a pulled hamstring in preseason camp and has been limited in practice. Although he's listed as the No. 1 kick returner on the team's depth chart this week, he wasn't listed among the Buckeyes' top three tailbacks.
"The trainers said today they felt he was like 95 to 100 percent," OSU coach Jim Tressel said at his weekly media luncheon in Columbus on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

I'm not worried about Saine. I saw enough of him last year to know that he has it. They'll bring him along as the season progresses. No need for him against YSU and certainly no reason to risk injury.

I haven't seen Boom yet, but am looking forward to seeing the talent and toughness that the coaches obviously see.

Our backfield tandem next year should be sick.

If next yr is sick...what is THIS yr with Beans? Life threatening illness?

While I too am anxious to see what Herron offers, I'll be quite concerned if Saine isn't playing a fair amount. He brings game changing abilities to any play. Something we really need.

Tress seemed to be satisfied with Brandon's running today, but I thought it was a little bit lacking.

His vision that he displayed last year didn't seem to make it to this season. He definitely looked a little slower than I remember.

I hope he's feeling alright from his injury.

While he didn't seem to have "it", today, I think it was partially due to the fact that on several of his runs, he was immediately met by defensive players as soon as the ball was handed off.
