Saine sneaks back

Brandon Saine was the third choice on the tailback list, and he had a modest 20 yards on five carries. But considering he missed much of preseason camp as a sore hamstring healed, it was as much about shaking off the rust as anything else.
"It was really good to just get out there," said Saine, who also returned Youngstown State's lone kickoff 28 yards. "I know I need to be more patient, but I can work on that."

I am with Tresselbeliever, but honestly a lot of that vision come with reps and working with the same offensive line snap after snap. Since he missed a large part of the camp I am not sure he had that time to find the chemistry etc. Saine will be fine.

Yeah, I agree. I think if we get him in some space on a pitch he can get it and go, but he's way too hesitant at the line of scrimmage.

The problem with that is teams will see Saine in the backfield and assume option pitch, not run up the gut. The beauty of Beanie is he can do it all and teams never know what they're going to get. Our other backs are talented but not nearly as versatile.

I'm sure JT will find some ways to get creative with these guys though. He has to if he wants to beat USC without Beanie.

Time for Zoom and Boom to step up!

When a back is hesitant, I read that as someone afraid of making a mistake... As Obi Wan says "trust your instincts"... Need direction? Run to the goal line .. In absence of confidence, I concur, repetition will breed confidence

On the Hamstring?

Speed guys are notorious for being in tune with their bodies and a leg injury clearly impacts them more than say the big dogs on the O line. I think sometimes they have to get their confidence back before they can let it all loose. In addition, hamstring issues are notorious for recurring. I believe Saine did not run Track his senior year in HS due to a hamstring issue.

I tweaked my hamstring about three years ago, had an orthopedic surgeon from Harvard med, went through a USF physical therapy regimen, and am still am not 100% and probably will not be. I manage it and am still active but I have to be more careful. But I am just an old weekend warrior...

Joey Galloway had some hamstring issues at Tampa Bay but he seems to have gotten past them. Hopefully Saine and the OSU medical staff will get it figured out as well. Here?s pulling for him to be all he can be.

Saine played well in the redzone today, and pushed the pile to get into the endzone. He keeps his legs driving regardless of who's around and carried around 4-5 guys inside the 5 today.

When Beanie does finally leave I have a feeling that the running game will be safe in the hands of both Boom and Zoom.

I haven't been overly impressed with Saine this year or last year. He's more dangerous as a WR out of the backfield than a pure RB. He stutter steps in the hole too much. Like previously said, if there's a pitch or sweep to a certain side, he's golden, but an off tackle or a zone read play is not his cup'o'tea. His cutting ability also leaves something to be desired. But, if Tress is comfortable with him back there, give his ass the ball.

Im very disappointed in the way Tressel is shuffling these running backs in and out. Whether its Herron, Saine, or Wells. They don't really have a chance to get into a rhythm. Brandon and the others, need 10 or so carries to get into a rhythm and build some confidence.

I think Brandon's short falls are that he lacks vision, and anticipation. In High School he would just run through the holes that where there, and put on the after burners. He doesn't have allot of shiftiness. He is as powerful as Beanie, and maybe more so. He can move the piles.

Tressel needs to pick two backs and work both of them until the game is comfortable. At that point he can get the others involved. It appears that Brandon is the 4th string running back when Beanie is healthy.

Who's Henton?
And it's rhythm

Now I do agree. I think he should have kept Boom in after he had that great drive. He's a speedy back but has the size that can punish the secondary.

Funny thing about Saine, he's always displayed good power for a guy with 4.3 speed ... but he's never really displayed great football speed. An enigma so far....

Carlos Hyde baby haha..... Anyways gosh I feel bad about saying this because I feel like I pick on the guy but if you watch his TD run he stops running when he has contact coming his way. He's got to learn to just lower them pads and continue at full speed because he nearly stops in his tracks when he gets to the LOS
