RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

I wish the sweater vest would comment on why the kids are not playing. That way people (fans) do not have to speculate why. Has Tressel ever come out and honestly reported what happened to Beannie? Simple answer would be nice. Do we know what his injury is? Why is he so secretive? Who is he protecting? If Beannie goes Pro, they report his injuries and give updates. I beleive this secretive B.S. does more harm then good.

I would like to know why are Fastest Kid (Brandon Saine) is not being untilized? Whether its a RB, Z-Back, split end. He needs to be on the field. We know he can run, we know he can catch, we know he is learning to pick up blitzes (getting better but not great).

Can someone find out why Brandon Saine went from this Super Star last year to what appears him being in Tressel's Dog House?

Take away the reported 40 times and 100m records....what have you seen on the field production-wise that makes you think he deserves more time?

If anything, I'm thinking his days in the backfield are numbered and its time to find him a spot in the slot.

Too add, this is the exact same issue that he had in HS. Great straight line speed, but not much vision and failure to have much lateral speed and quickness.

He is what he is. The fans are not being fair by expecting him to be what he isn't.

It seems like the Bollman and Tress could design some plays to get him isolated on a LB.

Zoom is a receiver on many of the throwing plays. He just isn't the primary receiver. Making him a feature WR would not be a difficult thing to do. I agree with the toughness he has a RB, putting him in the slot would be a good fit. However, in the current state of our RBs until Beanie returns, Zoom stays in the backfield.

His biggest problem is that he is being way too tentative.
He tip-toes and dances his way to the the line and doesnt even get a chance to explode and use his speed.
I dont know if that would come with more experience, either in practice or in a game, but unless he starts running downhill then he needs to be moved to a position that better suits his skills...

Zoom reminds me of Maurice Hall. Smallish scat back/3rd down back type that looked promising his first year then thicker/slower and less productive as time went on. Both also had issues with vision(can't see the holes). Both had decent straight line speed so they carved out time as KO returners but thats about it.

In fact the entire running game situation reminds me of 02/03 without MoC. The OL looked light years worse and everyone of our "stable" of backs was really just mediocre at best once the dust settled. Same story in '08 once Beanie went down.

How was Zoom ever small? He was 6-1 and 220 pounds as a freshman.

More generally, what do you do with a player like Saine? Do you leave him on the bench because his skill set doesn't fit well with the offensive scheme and play calling or do you install some plays designed to take advantage of his skill set?
