I just don't want to see a stiuation like the one when Troy and Justin baatled for the job, see Texas game. (I know the situatioin began the year before, but still) Unless it produces another Troy Smith

The situation in the Texas game wasn't because of a battle so much as Troy's screw up and JT refusing to simply hand him back what he had lost through his own mistake.

I am not a platoon fan either. But I would prefer to see these guys prove in the heat of battle what they can do rather than go solely by what happens in practice. That assumes of course that there is legitimate competition.

It takes a bit of courage for a coach to do it that way. Let a kid put on a show on the field when you know he is making mistakes the fans can't see and you open yourself up to some major second guessing. (Witness Romeo in Cleveland. How does he keep Quinn off the field now without being booed out of the stadium?) Some coaches simply wont let you see the new kid for that very reason.

I think I have read where it is JT's intention to do just that. That is to use the first three games to sort thru the QB's. I think he is wise to do that if for no other reason than to see them all in actual game conditions. As we all know there are people who do better in practice and some who do better in games.

This makes sense to me, if there is a close race for the starting position. This would sort out the "practice" QBs from the "game" QBs.

Sorry. It was not my intent to infer that any of these Qb's are only practice Qb's, only that there are in athletics "gamers" Just as Zwick was the Starter until Smith showed his value on the playing field.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he only been in the program for 3 years as a RS Junior to be? The way I understand it, when you grey shit you aren't on the team. You simply do not enroll for a year.

Almost true. You can actually participate in fall practice up until classes start. If you then enroll as a full time student your 5 year clock starts. But if you go part time - as TB did - the clock does not start.*

So, he was not on the roster that first year, but participating in fall practice and being around the program certainly gives you a leg up.


* You can't be taking any scholarship money either. With the new rules that allow kids to start school in the summer with said money it may change the rules for greyshirts.

I agree he could be as good as Krenzel but mobile and Todd Boeckman can't be put in the same sentence imo. Every time TB left the pocket in the spring game I think he looked like fish out of water and had no chance to outrun anyone on the field, including the DT's. Not trying to bash Todd as I think he can be a good one, however I think he is extremely slow. Shoenhoft is a different story...

I was at a wedding (much to my dismay), so I must have missed that run. In the spring game he didn't look that athletic but maybe our defense is just fast :biggrin:

COLUMBUS ? The Ohio State quarterback battle is over in the mind of at least one combatant.
Junior Todd Boeckman appears certain to start the opener against Youngstown State on Sept. 1 after a steady, though not spectacular, two weeks of preseason camp.


Sophomore Rob Schoenhoft is second on the depth chart, followed by redshirt freshman Antonio Henton and freshman walk-on Joe Bauserman.
"I see Todd leading the pack, and that's a good thing because he deserves it," Henton said. "He's been here the longest and knows the system.
"It's not going to stop me, Robbie and Joe from getting better. You have to be ready when your number's called."

He only has average speed but even some of us slighty over weight , slighty out of shape BP's can score if the play is blocked right. For sure he is no speed merchant but he isn't a slug either.
WTH were you doing at a wedding during a Buckeye game and who is the MIch player who was getting married?
