QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

What are you guys talking about? Krenzel is a god! He delivered more to Ohio State fans than any single player in the past 38 years. Pre 2002-We had great teams that were sooooo close but just could not get over the hump. Combined with Clarrett, Krenzel was the catalyst that took Ohio State back to greatness and washed us free of the 2-10-1 ERA.

Boeckman is not similar to Krenzel yet. He is his own champion yes and has had a life full of success but now he holds his own destiny. It is my opinion that a weak schedule will only give Boeckman false security. He would shine against a Texas early on. That would build confidence that is needed down the stretch opposed to beating up a bunch of MAC schools.

Boeckman will do fine.

Because Krenzel won a title does not automatically make him a better quarterback physically, thats all they are saying

weak schedule? false security?

what i'm hoping to see in Boeckman is sound decision making and the ability to limit mistakes. one thing that krenzel taught us is that sometimes, a QB's best pass is to toss the ball out of bounds rather than force a bad pass into coverage. i'm confident that TB can do this while still making the big plays that the offense needs.

Tom Archdeacon: Boeckman ready for his chance
By Tom Archdeacon

COLUMBUS ? No one may be more in tune ? and out of tune ? with Ohio State football than Todd Boeckman.

The fifth-year junior quarterback ? "it seems like I've been here forever," he said ? is the front-runner to take over the Buckeyes' helm from Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith.

"Here's how old I am ? John Cooper sent me that first recruiting letter," he said with a grin. "Most of the guys I came in here with are gone now, and the new guys were eighth-graders when I got here.

I don't care if Todd is flashy or not, as long as he delivers a "W"......I'll be cool with that.
Exactly right Daddy, we don't need to have a flashy egotitical type. We just need someone who delivers the win. Whether or not he is better suited physically than Krenzel or anyone else is moot because he doesn't have to compete or play against Craig. Craig wasn't a better QB than anyone because of his physical abilities per say but he has to stand out because of the way he ran the team. Eastside is correct in saying How much Craig has meant to tOSU.

Interesting quote by TB:

“I know I’ll be battling two other quarterbacks this year and they’re both great players and good guys, but hopefully I can pull ahead. I know we’ll all push each other, but we’ve got to do what’s best for the team. The coaches told us, ‘Worry about yourself. You can’t be looking over your shoulder saying how did he do? How did he look on that last play?’ “I watched how Troy and Justin did it. At first they were a little tense. They’d both been recruited and wanted to play, but you’ve got to try to stay friends,. You can’t be in a little heated argument back and forth. And if you take it the right way, you should do okay.”

Seems as though there WAS some friction between Troy and Justin... Interesting.

Quarterbacks enter 2007 with much to prove

16. Todd Boeckman, Ohio State
The question: Troy Who?
Not likely that Buckeye fans will be saying that this year, as Boeckman steps in for '06 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. As a 23-year-old junior, Boeckman should have the maturity to handle a thankless task; we'll see whether he also has the arm for it.

Boeckman in OSU's quarterback spotlight
He's not the starter yet, but he's eager to play

COLUMBUS: He has been in Columbus since the fall of 2004, but it wasn't until Thursday that Todd Boeckman discovered what it's like to be Ohio State's starting quarterback.

In this case, it meant standing for an hour in the muggy east concourse of Ohio Stadium, sweating in full uniform while answering round after round of questions at OSU's media day.

''I guess this was my 'Welcome to Ohio State Day,''' Boeckman said afterward.

The job does not officially belong to the 6-foot-5, 235-pound junior from St. Henry. But he has been grayshirted (starting his freshman academic year late, delaying the start of his four years of eligibility) and redshirted. His every move has been orchestrated to put as much distance as possible between him and 2006 seniors Troy Smith and Justin Zwick.

''It's been three, four, five, 10 years . . . I don't know what, it's been quite a while since I've actually taken a snap, so I'm looking forward to it,'' Boeckman said. ''I'm real excited, and I've learned from some great quarterbacks here.

''I've just got to stay relaxed and focused and keep working hard; the rest will take care of itself.''

The old man against the young gun

COLUMBUS -- More than once, Todd Boeckman reached up to wipe the sweat dripping from his forehead. Part of the heat came from the suffocating humidity within the concourse of Ohio Stadium. The rest came from the glaring spotlight that just comes with the territory of being the quarterback at Ohio State.

After getting peppered with questions for about an hour, Boeckman seemed relieved after it was all over.

''This was my ?Welcome to Ohio State,''' he said.

He no doubt wants it -- he has been around for four years already and paid his own way for a quarter just to get here. Now he's learning how to handle it.

Boeckman: 'I'll be ready' for new role

By Doug Harris
Staff Writer

Tuesday, August 14, 2007
COLUMBUS ? Junior quarterback Todd Boeckman was cornered by the media at Ohio State's photo day last week with reporters grilling him relentlessly for over an hour.
If he was wondering about the scrutiny he'll be subjected to this season, that question has been answered. He'll go from performing under a microscope in a high-profile program at St. Henry to playing in front of the Hubble telescope if he becomes the OSU starter.
