Ohio State's offense after the exodus

Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith is gone and whoever wins the three-way QB competition between Todd Boeckman (pictured), Robbie Schoenhoft and Antonio Henton will have huge shoes to fill. On top of that, Ted Ginn Jr., Anthony Gonzalez and Antonio Pittman all left early for the NFL.

John Porentas on the OZone (Mr. Ed) covered JT's comments and added that two years ago Boeckman had the best 40 time of all the QBs (yes, that includes Troy Smith).

In addition JT commented that the renovated meeting rooms and offices at the WHAC are all but done, with the finishing touches in place by the end of next week.

Isn't that what everyone expected?

Everyone with half a brain, yeah. That's why I was surprised to see in the spring practice thread some people saying that Henton will or could be the starter. Anyone who knows anything about the way JT coaches knows that Boeckman will be the starter, Shoenhoft will be second string, and Henton will be third string.

With his casual wear and an easy smile, Todd Boeckman looks as if he just came back from spring break, which he did. He and a few buddies spent last week in Panama City, Fla., "the first real spring break trip he's ever taken," his father, Tim, said.

So Todd Boeckman looks relaxed, but his outer appearance hides an inner eagerness. He is first in the breach to replace Troy Smith as the starting quarterback, and all that pressure is about to land squarely on his shoulders.
