QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

He should know the system inside out by now!
That will certainly be an advantage!
We need him to be a leader!

This is why I had to disagree when people would compare us to Texas last year. Sure it is a new QB, but one who has a lot of time in the system. McCoy was a RS Fresh who had seen no time. Todd knows the system and JT has a good feel by now what TB is able to do. Should TB not win the starter job, it just means somebody stepped up and played even better which would have to be a positive thing.

Couldnt agree more...Also keep in mind that Todd had a Heisman winner in front of him that he got to learn from and hopefully he has a nice set of Backs and recievers to spread the ball around to which should help...

The one thing that could help Robbie and Henton are that they can move a little better than Todd, but Todd isnt necessairly a statue...

McCoy had a decent QB in front of him also. Didn't win a Heisman, but many would argue he should have.

I do agree that all 3 are solid choices for their varried skill sets. After the Zwick/Smith thing, I am not even going to pretent my opinion has any value (I obviously thought Zwick should have been the man, which shows what my opinion is worth).

Well Todd had 4 yrs to learn while McCoy had only 1...

THe defenses that Todd has faced in practice have been stought and the staff should have a great feel of whether or not Todd has what it takes...

Ten things to pay attention to this spring

6. The Ohio State quarterback situation And so begins the Todd Boeckman era. Maybe. He's a big 6-5, 235 passer with a little bit of experience and the inside line on the job. Sophomore Rob Schoenhoft is even bigger at around 6-6 and 240 with a big arm. Now he just needs time to work. Antonio Henton is the wild-card in the mix as the only mobile option of the three. He has a nice arm, but if he's starting this season, it's because Boeckman and Schoenhoft fell flat on their faces. It doesn't help the situation that the receiving corps is also in a state of flux.

Evidently these folks aren't aware that the top two returners in our "state of flux" WR corps have 46 catches for 639 yards and 7 TDs between them. Boeckman (or whoever starts) will have some solid talent to throw to...

...and that those are QUALITY catches. Clutch, covered, acrobatic, with the game on the line catches.

good reporting.

The author (Fiutak) is one of the biggest scUM homers in college football journalism. He never misses a chance to downplay OSU or give scUM more credit than they deserve. I'm not at all surprised by his comments here.

Boeckman, or whoever wins the QB battle, will not be lacking for quality guys to throw to. As both Mili and VprHis aptly pointed out, the returnees posted decent numbers, despite limited touches. I especially like the "game on the line" comment. These guys have played when it counted the most. Once a stretch guy emerges, and if you factor in Hazell's coaching, the Bucks will have some serious weapons. Back to the thread, this spring will be good for Boeckman. He'll get quality reps against a quality back seven in various team drills. Competition for positions is going to be fierce everywhere, it can only lead to continued improvement.

The QB who consistently makes the best decisions in the heat of battle will win, period. Size, arm strength, and mobility are all secondary issues.

It would stand to reason that Boeckman's extra experience would give him the inside track but I don't think anyone outside the staff really has a good grasp on who it will be at this point.
