QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

I agree he could be as good as Krenzel but mobile and Todd Boeckman can't be put in the same sentence imo. Every time TB left the pocket in the spring game I think he looked like fish out of water and had no chance to outrun anyone on the field, including the DT's. Not trying to bash Todd as I think he can be a good one, however I think he is extremely slow. Shoenhoft is a different story...

boeckman had the fastest 40 time of the qb's last year and that counted a heisman winner. Maybe, not a burner but, with his size/speed I'll take it in a second and He knows the system

Boeckman in line to be OSU's QB - for now
BY JON SPENCER | THE (MANSFIELD, OHIO) NEWS JOURNAL

COLUMBUS - From grayshirt to graybeard, 23-year-old junior Todd Boeckman feels like he's done it all in his four years at Ohio State.
In reality, he has yet to start his first game at quarterback.
The moment the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Boeckman has awaited since 2003 arrives Sept. 1 against Youngstown State. It will mark the first time he's lined up behind center at the start of a game since his senior year at St. Henry in '02.

40 times are 40 times...I guarantee you Troy was a much better athlete than Boeckman on the move. I hope he proves me wrong and can move though. I was at a wedding by force but luckily a friend had brought a miniature T.V. to the reception, so I didn't miss it all

Boeckman was All Ohio in 2 other sports.
How many times did Troy make All Ohio and in what sports?
I'm just sayin'......................

High School: Started four years for St. Henry, leading the school to the Division V state title game as a freshman. Threw for 7,021 yards and 64 touchdowns as a prepster. Was all-state in basketball and baseball as well. Played for father, Tim Boeckman.

Your HS accolades don't determine your value at the next level. You can go down the all-Ohio list and many players that are legit D1 prospects won't be on it. You have to factor in potential and how that talent will translate to the next level. You can be an excellent HS player but if you have already reached your potential, you may just be remembered as a great HS player. In regards to Boeckman...he is not as athletic as Troy Smith and anyone saying that is kidding themselves. Whether he has adequate athleticism for the position remains to be seen this year and I'll wait to watch him in a few games before I come to a conclusion. I'm in no way trying to take anything away from Todd but let's see how he can move against a legit pass rush and a defense of Wisconsin, Tsun, Penn State, etc.

To dismiss Boeckman's accomplishments out of hand is a mistake.
He is an athlete!

I'm not trying to dismiss his accomplisments...Boeckman was an excellent high school athlete. I'm just saying that high school accomplishments neither add or detract from your college career. Todd is no longer at St. Mary's, rather at OSU, which means he is yet to create his entity at the college level. I just want to see how his athleticism looks when he faces Division 1 powerhouses, not high schools.

Todd played at St Henry. In Ohio high school football, it's one of the historically better programs. His father was coach.

Show me another kid who has had a comparable sports background?
Who has accomplished as much?
There are very few that have done what Boeckman has done!

And any kid who starts at QB for Ohio State is a fine athlete!

I am well aware of Todd Boeckman's background thank you very much. It's not quite sin to point out the obvious in which I am doing...I don't care about his background now that he is here. He plays for Ohio State right now, not St. Henry. He is not playing football, basketball, and baseball...he is OSU's QB and I am not disputing that he isn't a good athlete. If I were to have said that Boeckman's HS accolades weren't impressive, then you would have an arguement. However, all I am saying is that those accolades will do nothing to help him now that he is at Ohio State. Of course any QB that starts at OSU is a "fine athlete". Any Division 1 player is a "fine athlete". However, there is the fact that once you get to Division 1 football, there are better athletes than others and what you did in high school means nothing at that point (see a common theme here?). You can tell me about TB's HS accomplishments all you want but the fact is, I could care less now. I hope Boeckman has a great career at OSU and he has waited patiently for this opportunity. I also hope he proves me wrong and shows a little mobility...I am just saying that anyone thinking TB will be a playmaker like TS is horribly mistaken. I do think that Todd can manage the game, make plays when need-be, and get the ball to the talent around him, which is all he needs to do.

SPORTS SPOTLIGHT
TODD PORTER

COLUMBUS

Against a pristine sunset with lights glowing above Ohio Stadium, Todd Boeckman got his first real chance to be himself.

Ohio State's junior quarterback could have grown a Forrest Gump beard in the time it took for him to command a huddle with the first-team offense at Ohio Stadium.

A crowd of 5,500 showed up for an open practice that was designed to let a player such as Boeckman feel what it's like to be the man.

For three years, Boeckman was Vince Young, Drew Tate, Chad Henne, Chris Leak and Brady Quinn. Boeckman mimicked opposing quarterbacks on the scout team offense. He threw the ball where the playcard told him.

I'm really glad that Todd will get his time at the helm. He as worked long and hard to get here and he earned the right to start. Just think about all the sweat and hard work he put in just waiting with very few rewards or acknowledgements. At the moment I don't care if the highest rated sure fire QB of the year just got recruited this kid has earned a shot.
:oh:
