QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

I don't know where to put it, so I will put it here.

I have season tickets in 10B, but this is the first game I have been able to attend this year, since I am always out of Ohio in the beginning of September due to my job. So I don't know if this has happened earlier in the year, but I know it happened today, and I know it's been talked about already, but I was so upset and embarassed, that I have to comment.

There is NO EXCUSE...NOOOOOO EXCUSE.....for "booing" Todd Boeckman. A few people in my own section did. People that have sat there for years. I turned around and told them exactly what it was, and excuse my language, but I screamed, "That's bullshit!!! Todd is doing his best! You all make us look like the most arrogant fans in the land!" It shut my section up. And they all knew I was right.

He wants to win, he's given 25% OF HIS LIFE to the Buckeyes. He stayed in Columbus during the summer to work harder and get better. He's a GREAT person. And honestly, he's a great QB, and has done a lot of GREAT things while he's been here at Ohio State. Unfortuantely for him, he's not the best QB on the team right now. So you "BOO" him because he isn't the best QB on our team, and he comes in and throws a pass, which was not a good pass. And don't fall back on the whole, "I was booing the coaching staff." That is crap. When you "BOO" there, the perception to Boeckman, and to everybody else, is that it's directed at him. And even if it is directed at the coaching staff, it still looks poorly on you, and on him. Those who booed him don't know what he goes through everyday, what he has gone through for the last 6 years.

Freedom of speech, and you have the right to "BOO"...fine. You do. You aren't going to get arrested. But it still makes you look like an idiot, and it's wrong. Not only had Todd delt with a lot of adversity by starting off so well (I'm sure some of you thought he had an outside chance at a Heisman) and then not playing as well as he did in the first half of last year, but now he's delt with the best freshman QB in recent history to compete with him for the starting job. But did he quit? No. He acted like a man. He has helped Terrelle Pryor become a better QB. Todd Boeckman is what every Buckeye should aspire to be. He is a great man. He is a great Buckeye. If I have a son, I can only hope he is half as good of a person as Todd Boeckman. You all would be so lucky.

I was so ashamed for all of those who booed today when Todd threw that incomplete pass. I still am.

Go Todd!!! Go Bucks!!! Let's go win the Big Ten!

I was just getting ready to start a thread to this effect when I found your post. I agree wholeheartedly. How do you think this makes our team feel? You think they're going to play BETTER for a bunch of "has been" or "never was" old men arrogant enough to think they have the right to boo them?

Check this out from SI.com - News and Scores from Sports Illustrated:

Boeckman, fifth-year senior, only played two snaps and the smallest crowd in Ohio Stadium in six years loudly booed him after an incompletion on one of those.
That prompted defensive lineman Lawrence Wilson to say: ''Hey, we're just kids. We're not professionals. There's no way that adults should treat us that way.''

Nice. We look real good there folks. "BOO!" to anyone who booed their own team today! Go boo Lawrence Wilson in person tough guys!

Good job Jon for sticking up for your team today! GPA.

EDIT: Saw that prof already posted the LW quote, but what the heck... it's good enough to quote twice!

IF that had been the case, shouldn't the boos have been heard when Todd took the field? From our seats in 8C, the boos came when he misfired on his second pass and missed a wide open receiver over the middle. I didn't think then, and don't think now, that those boos were directed to the coaches. Also, it seemed that the loudest boos were coming from A deck behind the OSU bench.
Bottom line is, and I agree with all the disgusted people here, there is no excuse for the boos regardless of the reason. Utter lack of sense was being displayed by the dolts who engaged in this.

Todd has been an outstanding Buckeye throughout his time at tOSU. I'm proud to have him on the team; we'll need him the rest of the year to help tutor Terrelle and to provide competent backup. Great young man.

Exactly. I mean, if TP continues to develop and does what we know he's capable of...

We'll be a team with an all conference QB coming off the bench. How ridiculous is that?

Booing any Buckeye is unacceptable, especially if said Buckeye has given it his all. He's had missteps, but he's still a Buckeye. I'm not so sure that the people booing Todd are even true Buckeye fans. True Buckeye fans know that he should be treated as one of us.. not as an enemy..

I know Todd had family at the game today (probably does every game). Booing him is not only going to be tough for Todd, but tough for his family.

Hopefully Todd reads the messages we've posted in defense of him. I'm sure his confidence and ego took a completely unnecessary hit today.

so the guy takes us to the NC game in an off year and then gets beat out by a true frosh and people want to boo him? i don't understand that, and i don't think i ever will. i may have booed Robo today a little if i were in the stadium, bc IMO it looked like he was dogging it (just what i saw, i may be wrong), but there is no reason to boo TB. that quote from Wilson if its true is borderline heartbreaking. who the fuck do those people think they are? i actually got in a buddy's face at the bar today for booing TB. even though we weren't in the stadium i still told him that was BS. one more thing. did anyone see TB sulking on the sidelines today? i sure didn't. that's class.

JXC thats a GPA as far as i'm concerned. seriously, 25% of his life? when you put it like that it gives the situation some real perspective.

+1 on the last part...

I'd just like to add that right after the fucking idiots started booing, I recieved a text from my friend who is also a TSUN fan. He thought it was disgusting. A TSUN fan was upset that tOSU "fans" (and I use that term loosely) were booing Todd.

didn't the same thing happen to zwick? i remember being pissed about that too. it just doesn't make sense to me.
Yep...and Stanley Jackson, and Steve Bellisari. You know the last QB that wasn't either "booed" or in a heated competition with a QB that was being "booed". Bobby Hoying. Every other QB that has been to Ohio State since has had to been on one side or the other of this "booing" the quarterback crap.

But today was the worst in my opinion. Because not only was it MORE people than i've ever heard before...but it was after ONE FREAKING PLAY! Oh my god, he threw an incomplete pass. GET HIM OUT OF THERE....BOOOOOOOOOO! Pryor threw 7 incomplete passes. Why don't all you jerks boo him 7 times. And i'm sorry, when I say all you, I don't mean YOU, because I hope nobody here at BP booed. If so, go post on the ESPN boards, and get the hell off of this site.

I'm still so pissed. I need Bucklye to hold me back before I hurt somebody........

Won't lie for the most part I think our fan base leaves much to be desired (besides us here at BP of course)

Every team has their fair wether fans, but we probably have more than any due to the size of our school. Which means tons of fans trying to out due each other to prove their fanhood. IMO, like penn state, this leads to some pretty embarressing pre game incidents. Now, of course, booing. Everyone knows Pryor is the future here at OSU and once those fairweathers realize this they go ahead and Boo a guy who's a 6th year starter. Way to go. Not to mention the shoe' can be the most quiet 105k if the other team or the buckeyes suck. Best fans my ass.

Mele...a word that needs to be used more often, IMO.

I hope Todd reads this thread, or gets the message. I think almost all of us agree that we owe a lot of the past success, and future success of this football team to him. We are better off for him coming to The Ohio State University. Hopefully he knows that. He led our team to an unexpected outright Big Ten championship last year. He was the starting QB on a team that beat Michigan! He's done, and hopefully will continue to do, a lot of great things for this university, on the field, in practice, and off the field. Continue to be a great leader Todd! You are a great Buckeye TEAM CAPTIAN!

And on a side note...how would you feel if you were a recruit at the game today, hearing fans boo Todd. Think that makes you want to come here? People need to think before they act like idiots. ARGHHHHHH

I go to Michigan State University. I'm a die hard Buckeye and you can look for me with my Santonio Holmes jersey on in the student section come October when the buckeyes travel here.

Theres no reason for booing. Another thing that pisses me off, it gets me so mad when they show the big ten scoreboard at the stadium, and the whole student section boos for every big ten team thats winning, and cheers when a big ten team is struggling.

WTF are people morons or what?

That poor kid must of felt at rock bottom when he was booed in front of 102,000 + fans.
I feel bad for him & he does not deserve that kind of treatment what so ever.
Imagine how you would feel, not so great.
Shiznit happens we have bad times, perhaps he is too.
Todd got to be a Buckeye for a reason,he showed that he is a leader & a good quarterback.:wink2:
