QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

Better question, why doesn't Boeckman or Zwick deserve to keep the job if they are undefeated when Smith returns? Miami, Texas, and SDSU is an impressive run.

No way JT makes the switch going into a big game like Iowa...he will have Smith ready, but no way he risks the continuity by starting him.

Do you know something we (I) dont on when TS will back?
It just sounds like you are saying he wont be back before Iowa, maybe I am reading too much into your post...

Not at all...I was being hypothetical in a worst case scenario.

Should have said as much...my fault.

I don't think this rumor necessarily even hints that TS will be suspended...

I think Boeckman could be starting merely b/c he makes our defense look silly in practice everyday. Smith could be benched in more of a doghouse scenario than a suspension one.

This rumor did not mention anything about Smith being suspended further...but many others have.

Right now, Troy Smith is at the mercy of the NCAA and Gene Smith. An additional 2 game suspension is not far fetched by any means.

A couple of things....

First, Smith's suspension was a two game suspension all along. At first, there was some talk about OSU petitioning the NCAA to reinstate him after the Alamo Bowl, citing the "Bowl experience", etc. that he was missing. That path was not taken, so it is a virtual certaintly that he will be back after the Miami game (save for whatever new action the NCAA might take with regard to this latest incident).

Second, according to local radio and TV, OSU officials do NOT expect the NCAA to force Smith to miss any further games as a result of the most recent alleged violations. Obviously, that isn't set in stone, but it's the best we have for now.

Third, while I'm sure Mili really did hear this, I simply do not believe that Tressel & Co. have made a decision yet. Smith's future is an unknown factor at this point, and the players have yet to report to camp. Once they are there, and properly evaluated, then the coaches will make a decision. Especially if Smith's "sentence" has then been decided. I just can't rationally believe that Tressel would make a decision like this right now.

You know I'm excited about TB I really am. Its Documented that I'm a Smith fan, but if Todd is as advertised let him play as the starter against Miami. Confidence is something you just have to have when you're playing football. We saw a great example of that last year with Zwick and also EJ Underwood. Zwick started off pretty good but once he got down it was down hill from there and he just didn't recover. Same thing for EJ, he started out brilliantly and then went down hard when he got beat a couple times. Now we definatly won't know if TB has the trait of being able to bounce back, but we have to start him in order to find out.

Another thing I want to bring up is someone posted about the passing scrimmages and said that its still sickning how Zwick still locks in on one reciever. He also went on to say how he said was playing like he was in his first year instead of being a soon to be junior. I hope Zwick turns it around and starts, but I honestly would rather see what Todd has before we put Zwick back in charge. I mean everyone deserves a shot, and TB hasn't had his yet.

Well, the night I saw them, JZ was left kind of off on his own, while the rest of the guys (Gonzalez, Schnittker, Hoewisher, Mangold & Carpenter) hung around with TB. I guess I look at it this way: For whatever reason, it seems like the guys play harder for TS than they did for JZ. Perhaps that could be a result of them having more respect for TS (and maybe TB), perhaps it's something else, and perhaps it's all in my head. Just an observation I made that I wanted to share. Take it for what it's worth......
There's your MAC bias showing, AJ...

Whether it be Zwick or Boeckman. I just want the starter of the Miami game to play the entire Texas game too. I think that all of our QB's can get the job done, but don't want to play musical starters, or even use a platoon. With a starter that's not looking over his shoulder, or playing not to lose his job, and plenty of depth. I think that our QB "situation" will give all of our offensive weapons the cohesiveness and confidence to make a championship run.

Although Smith has been completely cleared, Tressel said there will be consequences, and I don't think will entail simply running extra laps. Tressel places supreme importance on education, and Smith dissed that by skipping class to attend the camp. You know Tressel is pissed. I would bet my remining vCash that Smith doesn't start the Texas game, and if Boeckman/Zwick is lighting the Longhorns up, he may not even play.

my guess is that smith is going to be slated to sit the first quarter of the texas game. i dont see any of osu's 3 qb's lighting up texas per se. but, if either zwick or boeckman is playing well and in rhythm, they may keep smith on the bench.

however, if you are texas, this may make you have to gameplan for two different qb's in this game.
