QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

I can agree with that. I was just merely pointing out the fact that this may be one of the more crowded NFL drafts for QBs. All of those guys have higher QBR's and better TD:INT ratio. So where he is drafted is the ultimate question I wanted to raise with that list. IMO, he goes somewhere in round 3 or 4.
Teams lose their minds and reach on guys like Christian Ponder and Jake Locker because they're desperate for pro style QBs. Assuming he can right the ship at all in garbage time or spot duty, he'll get a good chance. The problem is he will have very little guaranteed money that he can count upon if he can't make it.

Someone, somewhere in some thread here at BP (not real helpful I know) said that Cardale getting drafted low by a good team is his best chance. I agree with that 100% and hope it happens that way. The way the NFL works anymore, high 1st round QBs are almost set up for failure since you are thrown into the fire immediately...

I think some teams may have learned their lesson with reaching unrealistically high for guys like Locker and Ponder. I do agree though, teams get quite desperate once they see "their guy" go off the board.

This would be the best scenario for CJ. Learn under someone like Rodgers, Roethlisberger (please for the love of god don't get drafted by Pittsburgh), or Brees.

Teams haven't learned to stop reaching, case in point Johnny Football, Brandon Weeden, EJ Manuel, Tim Tebow, Vince Young, RG3, etc

And if Cardale were to get drafted and make a roster, the minimum is still around $250,000/yr. I had a buddy, Bryan Randle play a few years on the practice squad for the Falcons when Vick was starting after leaving VA Tech. He got a nice salary, invested his money with an accountant and now plays arena football for the love of the game and doesn't want to get a "real job" yet. A few more years and he'll probably be a HS coach or local analyst in Blacksburg. I see Cardale having a similar career if he plays his cards right. Have a professional career for a few years and then do whatever job you want in Ohio as he'll always be a legend in the home state.

Well, two of those guys got drafted by Cleveland, two others were drafted a couple of years before Locker and Ponder if I'm not mistaken. I think they've been a little more cautious with their first round picks these last couple of years. I would love for him to find a team where he can take the time to learn the offense, adjust to the speed of the NFL, and prepare for his time to shine. It would be the best for him.

He can make every single throw an NFL QB needs to make - a coach will fall in love with him and take their chance at developing him. How many other QB's coming out this year can make every throw? Goff and...Cook maybe? Coaches will take their chances behind a vet and letting him learn how to read defenses for a couple years which he'll need, but he has gifts that 99% of other QB's could work their life for and never attain.

Don't sleep on Paxton Lynch. The guy can throw the ball.

True - there are a few other small school kids with potential...Connor Wentz out of NDSU is one. Cardale I think is leaving, Paxton has a year left but it's a weak QB class so maybe he takes the leap?
I don't see how he could improve his draft stock any more with another season at Memphis, I think he definitely declares. Agreed on Wentz, I overlooked the FCS guys.

A big part of his draft stock will be the combine. No matter what scouts/GMs have or haven't learned, it still seems if a player has a great combine, they Randy Marsh all over them. Plus not all QBs figure it out when they're 21/22. It's why there's late rounder/undrafted guys that become great NFL QBs. Cardale will be drafted and given at least 2 years to figure it out. How high he's drafted, how much he makes, and ultimately how long someone will give him a chance likely highly depends on his combine or pro day workouts.

He also has a an NFL WR this year in Thomas... NFL is much more than skill set, its much more mental. I think he'll have a decent backup career, but if you're not winning the starting position of your school in college then that speaks loudly to scouts.

Being replaced by a mobile QB isnt the same as being replaced by another pro style QB.

Scouts aren't dumb. They know that Meyer runs an offense more conducive to a mobile, zone read/option QB in favor of a pro style QB.

How many starters or 2nd string QBs are in the NFL that weren't starters for their college team?
Like I stated, Cardale will make the NFL have a good journeyman career, but he's the exception based on size and arm strength

How many other backup QB's got rings for their first 3 starts? He has a better shot than most if put in the right situation.
