Preseason and Regular Season Polls (2015)

You're taking this awfully personally. Ole Miss has a big boy win. Georgia looks dominant. You can play the "if LSU didn't have Fournette" game all you want, but they do. Utah looks better than we do. Fuck....Michigan looks better than we do. ND, Baylor, UCLA.....how many did you need?

Last year is over, fellas. This year we played 2 great quarters against a very good VT defense, and then looked like ass for the rest of the season on offense. Our defense just got a little beat up by the same damn read option up the middle play from a directional Michigan school. At some point if they don't get their heads on right, it's going to mean a loss to a team that has no business being on the same field. And what happens when they play like that against a school like Georgia?
Alabama ain't the same Alabama of the last 5-6 years, and Ol' Miss won by six points...a solid win but maybe not quite as good as you imply.

Georgia wasn't dominant against Vandy and took a half to get revved up against an FCS team. They're a very, very good team, but not really dominant.

LSU is indeed a one-trick pony, regardless if Fournette is still healthy. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he does against a good rush defense.

Utah looked great against Fresno State and Oregon, but not against Michigan or Utah State. They're a legit top-10, maybe top-5, team but I still wouldn't put them above us.

Our offense showed signs of becoming the juggernaut is was from the Kent State game onward (save the PSU game). 12 Gauge looked improved and hopefully the improvement continues from week to week. If he does, it'll open things up for Zeke like it during the last post-season. This would make us about as good as everyone said we'd be during the pre-season...

Sorry if I didn't get to your questions in enough time to make you happy. But if you think our performances against mighty NIU and Hawaii make US look like National Champions, then go ahead and book that non-refundable flight.

And besides....Michigan doesn't have to look like NCs, they just have to look better than us for my statement to be correct. Right now, they kinda do....even in that loss to a team that just kicked the [Mark May] out of Oregon at Oregon.

Well that's the problem. While a few teams have a singular "quality win" (do we really know that quality? Oregon just showed we don't...) ... everyone has also had some highly suspect periods of play.
Our defense is legitimately elite. Our offense has all the pieces -- they just haven't put it together since VTech. How much of that is personnel adjusting to new roles (Brax, Samuel, Jalin) or new drivers (Warinner, Beck) is debatable. But the pieces are all there and improvements are being made even if they're not meeting the other-worldly preseason expectations.

Pointing out LSU is weak w/o Fournette is a legit criticism. One player can -- and will -- be neutralized for extended periods at the level of top-5 teams. LSU isn't a complete team. Moreover I find their defense suspect -- they're not giving up many yards but they're in the 40s in scoring per game. Watching their games I can guess this is related to penalties -- their pass D seems to take the approach of PI every play and daring officials to call it. We know how that goes thanks to Cryami, who was a far better team on both sides.
Ohio State is complete, even if all 9 units haven't shown up to the same game yet. You can't over-commit to Eze anymore than you can over-commit to Brax, Thomas, Samuel, or Jalin -- and of course Vannett is no slouch either. There are proven threats all around on offense, and we don't need to go back to 2014 to demonstrate that either.

I will agree on 1 point, Ohio State is in danger of dropping a game if they continue like they did in the last 3. But so is every single team you mentioned -- as already pointed out, every one of them has had suspect games and looks beatable any given Saturday right now. Nobody is standing above the crowd 4 games in, so yes... Ohio State is still legitimately in the top-5.
Deserved or not, Ohio State is in the driver's seat as undefeated... and even with the inconsistency, I like our chances against every one of the teams you listed if the season ended this last Saturday.

The rest of college football has nothing to do with what Ohio State has or hasn't done, so you're wrong.

If we're talking about rankings -- and we are -- then yes, they have everything to do with it.
It's all relative. And in relation to the competition thus far, Ohio State is in the top-5.

I like how two of the three main challengers for #1 have beaten the same team that no one respects any longer. Then there's Ole Miss but I'm not sure anyone is very confident they stay there.

This. It's wait and see right now -- including Ohio State.
See who makes that step up and who falters. Hell, could even be both after last year... I don't see teams staying undefeated for long. The schedule is in our favor in that regard. With VTech behind us, just can't get sloppy -- but even now still have time for a few tune-ups before the Cult, and a few more after that. Minnesota and Illinois are both bad this year in my imo.

Apparently we aren't gonna win the September Championship again this year...

The most important piece of information I heard this weekend was that Tim Beck still didn't have all the terminology down. It was the reason given for why Warriner was calling plays from the sidelines (obviously a less than ideal situation). It was stated that he (Beck) was almost up to speed now and why he was now given play calling duties in the booth. It also explains a hell of a lot to me.

When this team hits its stride, Utah's or Ole Miss' September Championship won't mean shit. It is illogical to believe that a team that played as well as it did last year, with 95% returning, can not or will not get much much better. Unless we are to believe it was all "chemistry" and "heart" and "smoke in mirrors" or some other name for some intangible quality that team had. I don't believe that for a second. This team is stacked top to bottom with the best talent in the country and can be an absolute steam roller once they figure it out. I have full confidence they will. We haven't even gotten started yet. I'm still in shorts and haven't even looked for my sweatshirts and flannels yet.

Now that I've made my logical argument, it is time for us, as fans, to tape up our sprained September vaginas and jump on board before this freight train leaves this station.

So, let me tell you how this fucking fan is gonna start changing the alignment of the stars to get this shit rolling in the right direction:

Starting with the proper fanatic mindset.

Tonight, I'm watching "There Will Be Blood". A story of extreme brutality in the chase and the realization of a dream.

This team is drilling for another Championship and some motherfuckers in our way may have to bleed to accomplish that. We're gonna have to push some faces in the mud and smack some false prophets in the fucking face. But we will drink their milkshake. Oh yes. We will drink their milkshake.

Now before a bunch of people want to take me too seriously here, I've watched shit tons of college football throughout the years just like all of you guys. I am fully aware that back-to-back Championships is one of, if not the hardest thing to do in sports. We are 4-0 but have a long way to go. I haven't gotten to see everybody around the country play, and frankly, it doesn't really matter this early. Most teams will get better. Some won't. Injuries happen, and may happen to us. But I'm going to enjoy The Grind this year, especially since I'm just a fan and I ain't doing any of the work, until we either win it all again or fly off the tracks.

Alright....been thinking about which 4 teams I would put in today if you forced me to. In full disclosure we don't have enough data. I feel pretty solid on the first 3 of OSU, UCLA and Ole Miss. The 4th spot for me is a toss up between: Domers ,Utah, Georgia, Sparty, LSU, and Baylor. I honestly would have TCU in the next tier group vying for the 4th spot with several other teams I don't care to think about (waste of time).

OSU is in until you knock the king off his throne. It's hard to not include the defending national champ who, despite not blowing teams out, hasn't had a game in doubt yet. So, just realize teams are different each year with new personel, coaches, etc. and shut up until you beat the king. And something NOBODY is saying......the head coach has the 3rd best winning percentage of all time for coaches in the game 10+ years. So you don't include that guys team who is wearing the belt? Yeah, ok.

As much as I detest the SEC, it's hard to ignore the way Ole Miss went into Tuscaloosa at night and hit them in the mouth. Enough said.

UCLAs offense looks as good as anyone in the country. Perkins is legit and Rosen will just get better (this dude looks to be a huge talent). If they had all 3 starters on their D that are out for the year......they could be one damn fine club.

I realize the Domers don't have an impressive resume but they haven't exactly looked shitty either. They just look like a team that can play good enough D to stay in games and if they avoid any more injuries and Kizer can continue to develop they look like they could deserve to be there in the end. Plus that stud WR they have....he's legit. And, as much as I don't like him Kelly is a good coach. Truth is they probably shouldn't be tied with Utah. Based on resume the Utes have the edge but I don't see 2 Pac 12 teams making it and I see UCLA beating them. So I would probably go, in order OSU, Ole Miss, UCLA, and the last spot today is just too hard to call.

No one has done enough to supplant them at #1 even with Ohio State's lackluster performances... So... I'm not wrong.
No, you're still wrong. I said we haven't done anything to deserve a ranking. If we hadn't won last year, we wouldn't be #1 for sure....and with how much love SEC teams get I doubt we'd be currently in the top 5 after our performances. This has nothing to do with "WELL IF WE AREN'T TOP 5 WHO IS?". It has everything to do with the fact that we haven't done dick to prove we deserve to be ranked where we are. That statement BY ITSELF is hard to argue against.

Maybe FSU didn't deserve it looking back after the playoff was played, but they absolutely did before it.
Eh. I felt all along they were only there because of what they did the year before. I understand it's hard to leave an undefeated champion out of a playoff.....but that team was weak from game 1 till the drubbing they got at the hands of Oregon. After all the bitching from the Big12, but before we actually played a game, I felt their scorn was better placed in the FSU camp than ours.

If we lost to Oregon (lol) or even missed playoffs as #5 ... we might not be #1, but we'd be in the top-5.
Just like TCU and Baylor are getting the benefit of the doubt. Just like Bama and Oregon were til they lost.
Baylor didn't even win their bowl game and they're still getting that benefit.
