FSU as defending champs "deserved" it because the fuckers just wouldn't lose. I think everybody was waiting for that loss to drop them 10 spots, but it never happened. TCU and Baylor were both better in my IMO...

You're still using last year, though. I'm a big proponent of not even doing polls until some time in the middle of the season. If that were the case, we wouldn't be #1.

I don't think you can ever leave out an undefeated P5 team... no matter how "weak" the subjective eye-ball tests claim they are.
I don't think many people were surprised when FSU finally rolled over and the committee clearly wanted to drop them -- and would have if they had a loss -- but they were still undefeated.
I don't even think defending champ figures in... undefeated P5 is undefeated.

I expect PFC will have us in top-5 when theirs comes out.
We're kind of changing goal-posts now discussing #1... I've already been arguing since MSU-Oregon that PFC is unlikely to have us as #1. Even with that win being devalued, I still don't see us being #1 or even #2 when their poll comes out.

I for one believe in some carry-over year to year in CFB. Defending champ is one of the top-4 undefeated conference champs (or possibly more likely the ONLY undefeated)? This is not even a question. We all know what this team can be, they were the unanimous preseason #1 for heaven's sake. It hasn't been perfect, maybe not even great, but especially this particular year, OSU deserves to still be #1 right now. You're really going to say, as a lifelong cfb (ie King of the Hill) fan, that some Ole Miss or UCLA or Baylor deserves that ceremonial honorific right now?

The defense has done more than enough to make up for the offense's shortcomings on their end to warrant the #1 ranking. If the defense didn't bother to show up, Ohio State is sitting in Auburn's shoes. So, yes, they are deserving of a top 5 spot because defense wins championships. At this point, I don't give a shit if you think I'm wrong, considering we clearly aren't going to agree on this.

With the way we've played? I don't see how anybody can say we deserve to be 2015's current #1 team.

If this team would have graduated a bunch of starters I'd agree that last year didn't matter. This TOSU team lost very little (in terms of numbers) and I think that its inevitable and, frankly, proper to consider that.

I will say, however, that I don't really give a shit about the #1 ranking personally. Top 4 is all we need and once we make it to the dance, we can fuck all the other dudes' girlfriends...

Exactly. #1 vs #4 is meaningless to us. Unlike FSU / TCU / UCLA / Bama, we will travel whether we're #1/2 or #3/4. Only difference is what color uniform they get to wear for the semifinal.
If anything, I'll take being under-rated at #4 over #1 with all the December award banquets.
