Preseason and Regular Season Polls (2015)

This year. In one of your previous posts you said Ohio State hasn't done anything to deserve a top 5 ranking. Please name 4 or 5 teams that should be ahead of Ohio State.
I'll try and answer for him, and maybe others, by looking at teams 2 thru 10:

Michigan State: Had a less-impressive-than-ours win against common opponent WMU, barely beat a totally-overrated Oregon team that got ape-raped by 6 TDs at home, and struggled against Air Force and Central Michigan.

Mississippi: Scored a shit-ton against two truly shitty teams, had a win against a still-strong Alabama, and yet struggled against fucking Vanderbilt.

TCU: Struggled against Minnesota, slaughtered an FCS team, had to pull away late against a 1-3 SMU, and beat TTU on a fluke deflection catch at the end of the game after giving up 52 points.

Baylor: Blew out the same SMU team with which TCU had some problems, pounded an FCS team, and obliterated Rice. They play TTU this weekend which will give us a better comparison against TCU.

Notre Dame: Pounded a really bad Texas team, won by seven points against a Virginia team that just got curb-stomped 56-14 at home by Boise State, struggled against an overrated Georgia Tech team that just lost to fucking Duke, and blew away over-manned Massachusetts.

UCLA: Beat that shitty Virginia team by 18 at home, clobbered UNLV, barely beat BYU by a point, and torched Arizona for almost 4 TDs.

Georgia: Destroyed the same ULM team that gave Alabama a game for a half, struggled early against Vanderbilt, beat down USCe, and struggled a bit early against FCS Southern until they pulled away in the second half.

LSU: Barely beat Mississippi State by two, pounded a completely overrated Auburn which may end up going 0-8 in the SEC, and beat Syracuse by only 10.

Utah: Beat a resurgent Michigan team by a TD, won their rivalry game against Utah State by 10, beat Fresno State by 3t TDs, and ape-fucked Oregon by 6 TDs on the Ducks home field.

None of the nine teams stands out to me as a world-beater, except for maybe Baylor but the Bears haven't played a team with a strong pulse yet. Aside from Baylor, each team has had at least one game where they struggled. None of these teams can claim they're clearly better than Ohio State...

If Georgia beats Alabama by 10+ this week, maybe they'll have a claim. But from what I've seen, Bama doesn't have nearly the defense that they had last year.

Aside from that, no one has jumped out and wowed anyone. Therefore, it's hard to put anyone ahead of Ohio State at this point. And why stating they don't deserve to be in the Top 5 is a bit of a foolish statement.

But if you watched this team for 4 weeks and come away thinking they're going undefeated, good for you. Because after 12-0, we actually do have to play somebody. Maybe that somebody is Ole Miss or Utah. Maybe it's LSU. Maybe it's Georgia. Whoever it is, they're actually going to be good. I haven't seen anything outside of the 1st and 3rd quarter of VT that tells me we're one of the 4 best teams in the country.

They need work, but I haven't seen anything that makes me scared of Utah -- and especially not LSU. Take away Fournette and they're no better than Iowa.

I'm interested to see a team with a pulse on defense (not just preseason hype machines like Auburn) gameplan around stopping Fournette at all costs, and forcing LSU to beat them through the air. I mean Miss St. nearly knocked LSU off, despite Fournette being their entire offense. (28 carries, 159 yards, 3 TDs)

Their QB that game? 9/14 for 71 yards..

This is part of the problem imo.
A couple weeks ago I thought MSU had the best resume beating Oregon... now? I'm withholding judgment on Bama and Oregon as resume builders. Looks like both have struggled to reload. Ohio State may be underwhelming compared to the absurd hype, and a few teams have a singular better quality win 4 games in, but nobody has as much returning talent. We appear to currently be on the same level as several other teams you could put in a top-5, and a higher ceiling than all of them.
It'd take somebody matching 2014 Ohio State's development ... and that was a monumentally rare occurrence in NCAA football. If somebody's assuming we'll see that from an LSU, Aggy, TCU, Baylor, or Utah ... I have serious doubts. Any Given Sunday holds true for Saturdays as well... esp in playoffs... but just like JT hasn't beat out Cardale yet... nobody's beat us out yet either.
Plenty of room for improvement after 4 games for Cardale and Ohio State in general, but the gap's only going to get wider for those chasing. Better keep up.

A 13-0 defending champ OSU may not deserve to be in this year's playoff?? If they're undefeated in mid-December, they'll 100% abso-freakin-lutely deserve to be there, especially this year when the field is wide open and no way are there 5 major-conference champs all undefeated at that point.
Last year's Florida State team did not deserve it...and this team is starting to remind me of that one.

And still no clarification on which 4-5 teams should be ahead of Ohio State.

You're taking this awfully personally. Ole Miss has a big boy win. Georgia looks dominant. You can play the "if LSU didn't have Fournette" game all you want, but they do. Utah looks better than we do. Fuck....Michigan looks better than we do. ND, Baylor, UCLA.....how many did you need?

Last year is over, fellas. This year we played 2 great quarters against a very good VT defense, and then looked like ass for the rest of the season on offense. Our defense just got a little beat up by the same damn read option up the middle play from a directional Michigan school. At some point if they don't get their heads on right, it's going to mean a loss to a team that has no business being on the same field. And what happens when they play like that against a school like Georgia?

Me? Taking it personal?

I'm just glad you didn't dodge the question for a third time.

And it's not about "if LSU didn't have Fournette"... It's about a competent defense knowing what their weakness is, and exploiting it. They clearly have some deficiencies in the passing game. Soon enough a team with a defense will expose it.

And Michigan?! :slappy: They looked like a national champion in that loss to Utah! You must think that's a quality loss now that Utah steam-rolled an Oregon team on well on their way to their worst conference record in over a decade...

Sorry if I didn't get to your questions in enough time to make you happy. But if you think our performances against mighty NIU and Hawaii make US look like National Champions, then go ahead and book that non-refundable flight.

And besides....Michigan doesn't have to look like NCs, they just have to look better than us for my statement to be correct. Right now, they kinda do....even in that loss to a team that just kicked the shit out of Oregon at Oregon.

You responded to my post directly asking you to rank 5 teams that were better, and decided to tell me which teams were more deserving last season for whatever reason.

Are we really going to get into a fucking pissing match over a 100% factual statement that we don't look like world beaters? You asked an unclear question that I questioned the meaning of. I thought you meant name 4 teams more deserving of FSU last year since that was part of the statement you took such issue with.......and because it made more sense than you daring me to name 4 teams playing better than Ohio State this year when everybody knows we aren't playing very well at all.

Not a pissing match. You made an absurd statement, "Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the Top5", and I called you on it. Props for giving me some teams, finally. Still don't agree with you.
