Operation Chaos mode - BCS Title game contenders

Make One Big Call For the Second Half ? Ohio State is going to get back in the national title hunt. America doesn't want it, Fox doesn't want it, and even Ohio State fans this year probably don't want it, but the ACC teams are going to start picking each other off, Texas might have two losses coming its way, USC doesn't look like a world-beater and could certainly lose again, Boise State simply won't enter the discussion, and no one will be unbeaten from the Big East. Ohio State won't be pretty, but it'll roll through Purdue, Minnesota, and New Mexico State before closing out with a big finishing kick against Penn State at Penn State, Iowa, and at Michigan. If the Buckeyes are 11-1, they'll at least be No. 3 in late November and will be in a great position to face the SEC champion (sorry to sour your day).
--------

-Well, the good news is that other "outside" sources agree that we have a real chance if things play out right.:osu:

and thats exactly the prevailing attitude I was referring to in the other thread when I say that if the SEC CG loser has only 1 loss and its a close game the rematch scenario might be more palatable to the pollsters than another OSU vs SEC championship game.

Why wouldn't Fox want it?

from the authors point of view I can only assume he's implying that no one would want to watch another beat down and ratings would suffer therefore Fox wouldn't want it.
But really the author is wrong. It was an Ohio State game vs a top 5 opponent this year that brought ESPN its highest rating for a college football game. And really the networks/cable always benefit from the Big 10. The scUM - MSU tilt brought ESPN2 its highest ratings ever for a college football game. All that stuff is overrated.

I agree. Fans often associate their like/dislike of a team or a teams chances of winning with ratings and it just doesn't work like that.

ND being the classic example. How many times have we, as people that by and large despise ND, commented on the impending doom of their NBC deal or how NBC must be losing money because no one wants to watch ND anymore, they suck etc etc etc?

Fact is ND just like OSU has a huge fan base and and ass load of people want to watch them win while another large ass load of people want to watch them lose. Bottom line to a network is an ass load of people want to watch.

While I disagree with the author on the network ratings part I think he's on the money regarding the pollsters. OSU is going to be fighting the ghosts of 0-5 past so to speak in a 1 loss beauty contest, no doubt in my mind.

ND's defense is going to get shredded by USC. I don't think this game will be close. Unless USC wets the bed again this season only Oregon has a chance to beat them.

I don't really care if we make the BCS title game, but I don't want to play USC again in the Rose Bowl. If USC wins out and 2 of Florida, Bama, and Texas lose USC will get in the BCS title game. I think it will take 2 losses in most cases for us to get a shot. Next year is our year. Give me a winnable Rose Bowl this year.

As much as I agree with you and the whole winnable bowl thing. I would much rather be matched up against another huge opponent. The past two "big games" we have lost by a total of what 7 points (4 to TEX and 3 to USC). I think this team is a lot better than people are giving them credit for. Of course we need work in a few area but what team doesn't this year.

I think next year is going to be the year but it would always be nice to have something unexpected.

I concur. A dominating D-Line can beat anyone on any day. 2006 proved that point. I'm not skeered of anyone. Perhaps that's a homer point of view. But Defense wins championships and this team plays lights out D. I say let Chaos reign and lets backdoor this sucker like 2007.

Tru' 'dat. But the offense has to make sure it doesn't lose it. If Pryor keeps playing like he's been playing most year, and if the opposition defenses stack the box against us, we WILL lose.

I want a winnable rose bowl this year. Or a winnable bowl game against an SEC team.

Any trip to the title game is GOOD. You can't win if you don"t play..if this was 2002 many of you would be saying lets play in the Rose Bowl and go Undefeated..we might lose to Cryami. For those under 20 tOsu used to be 9-3 forever under Cooper. A sniff of a title or a scUM beatdown was a pipe dream for years!

Two points:

1). The near rematch of OSU/Michigan in the '06 title game is all the more reason why another rematch won't happen. I remember that when the idea was first tossed on ESPN by Herbstreit, quite a few coaches were p[censored]. Herbie really laid his credibility on the line there. And what transpired in the title game made Herbie look so bad that he had to almost take an extra critical view of OSU from there just to compensate for the stupidity of the idea. The coaching fraternity won't let it happen and too many folks in the Harris poll won't be thrilled with that idea either. But, that's just my opinion. There's no way to know for sure until that scenario plays out.

2). The flip side of a winnable game is a losable. Those of you clamoring for a winnable game are sounding a lot like the posters who didn't believe OSU could hang with Texas last season, and look at the result. If you refuse to support your team's aspiration to become the champions based on your biased opinion that such a challenge is insurmountable, then you should start looking for other teams to root for.

The last 3 big games people were saying we would get blown out. Some fans I know were even considering not watching the Texas or USC games because they felt that we had no shot. "OH NO, State Penn's HD offense is going to thrash us.... Texas should be in the Title game.....USC won by 30 last year....BLAH BLAH BLAH"

This group of guys doesn't give 2 craps about any of that and OSU was for all intents and purposes one play away from winning all 3 of those games. I believe in my team. That's why I spend money to go to games. That's why I buy clothing to show my pride. That's why I enjoy haters saying we don't stand a chance. That's why I put so much time into this thread. Because we can win. And IMHO not one team I have watched this year has looked UNBEATABLE. Not like Miami in 02. I had to listen to that for a month and a half. I get sick of a defeatist mentality. So who would be good to play Oregon State, Arizona, UCLA. Give me a break. I want to root for the best. And to be the best you have to beat the best. Give me the F-IN SEC. If you don't want OSU in a Title game please don't post in this thread. Because I know that there are fans here with guts. And I am one of them. Show some pride in your Bucks!!!!

O to the F-IN H!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like Notre Dame, but I think they have a decent chance this week. USC is not that scary. I know I said they would probably win on the Charlie Weis Thread, but I've flip flopped and picked Notre Dame as my upset special and on the weekly pick 'em.

Texas will lose at least once. Their running game is toast.

Anyone rooting for UT so McCoy can beat out Tebow for the Heisman is misguided. Neither one is playing good enough to win. If Tebow wins it will be because he played through a concussion. Bradford may have played better than Tebow just by being injured. The two best QBs in the country right now are Clausen (ugh) and Case Keenum. If either one of them keeps it up, Heisman voters will notice.
