Operation Chaos mode - BCS Title game contenders

Whoa the Big Ten title? I just want to beat Minnesota. Iowa and Penn State seem like an uphill climb at this point. Hopefully we can just get back to beating mediocre Big Ten teams before we start thinking of a Big Ten Championship.

I don't think the Buckeyes were ever in the NC hunt, personally. Perhaps now we can dial back the expectations to a realistic level. I hate losing, especially to a team on a five game losing streak but I look forward to seeing what these young Buckeyes accomplish.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but I still think that (when they show up) OSU is the best team in the Big Ten. They beat themselves as much as Purdue did. Sure, I can sit and mope about a loss, but this doesn't ruin the season for me. I still love to watch the Buckeyes play and I am going to root for them to win a Big Ten title. If you don't feel that way, don't post in this thread. :wink2: I guess I just find it lame when people dwell on everything, so I try to avoid it.

This was one loss, it's not a pattern. If it becomes a pattern, then I will probably share your view. Until then I think we can put the pieces back together and be a very good team by late season. We've got time until we play Iowa, Penn St. and Michigan.

+1

I hate it when Ohio State doesn't win as much as anyone, but... it's just time to accept that the 2009 Buckeyes are not a "great" team. Good enough to win the Big Ten? Sure, I think so... but.. gadz, this is the first game Ohio State has lost - which Ohio State should NOT have lost - since Illinois 2007.

People wonder what it's like to have a USC like season, where you drop a contest to a worse team - well... now you know.

Agreed. The Big Ten title to me is always the primary objective. It wasn't long ago that we were playing mediocre bowl games and losing to mediocre SEC teams like South Carolina in consecutive years and we were buried in the middle of the Big Ten.

As for our BCS hopes....I don't think that our offense is consistent enough to survive that last 3 game stretch....we have the talent, but I don't see it getting done especially with two of them being on the road in hostile environments. It may be too much to expect for this very young group on offense. I would project us playing someone like Georgia in the Capital One Bowl.

The plus side of this loss is that it keeps us from backing into another BCS or possibly NC game for which we aren't prepared. Before Saturday there was a possibility that we'd run the B10 table and get our ass handed to us again with the whole country watching. Instead, Purdue handed it to us on the B10 Network while the rest of the country was watching Texas-OU.

Our ranking was inflated. We should probably be in the second ten this year (despite the defense's overall body of work). Now that some of the artificial hype we didn't deserve is gone we can: win out (including beating the dog sh*t out of scUM), have productive bowl game practices, beat whomever is unlucky enough to draw us on 1/1/10, and take that momentum into next season.

It's truly sad how many people have already decided how highly a 1-loss SEC team will rank without even seeing how they are playing.

At this point, the prevailing (read:media) setiment seems to be that the SEC CCG is the de-facto NCG.

And until someone steps up to the plate and beats the SEC Champ, then who can argue with it?

I'm hoping Heisman winner Colt McCoy can lead the Longhorns to a NC this year, myself.

which was thoroughly refuted for years now, but no one seems to care because their perception is a lot like their postgame articles... Largely constructed before the results are in.

Bama got humilated worse than anyone last year. Tennessee was in a dogfight with a decent but not impressive b10 team.
Arkansas' high octane o was dominated by wisky, iirc.

The sec is a great conference, and there are a lot of title contenders. But for all of the billing for the depth, the non-bcs teams really don't separate themselves from the other conference opponents.

fine, crown the champs, they've earned it. What have the ccg losers done to earn such bias?

Colt would give them yet another 1/2 football team.
06 Osu - offense (or at least during the season)
07 osu - 1/4 of an elite team thanks to beanie? 1/3?
08 ou - prolific o, suspect d, though it shut down tebow for 3 quarters.

I still contend that 05 Texas, 04 USC, 02 Miami, 01 Miami would wipe the floor with 06 uf and 07 lsu. 02 osu, 03 USC would win closer. 08 uf would be competitive with that d.

Now even the great Gator team is a shell of itself because of the Vikings draft.
