It would only be tampering if Tressel was talking to Boren before he got released from his scholarship. I doubt very much that happened.

RRod just doesn't seem like the kind of character to let the accusations fly turning an unfortunate but somewhat routine situation into a nasty, mud-flinging drawn out circus. I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't take the high road.:wink2:

On the other hand, it's not like we haven't taken in marquee players before when they've transferred from other Big Ten schools. Brad Sellers and Lawrence Funderburke spring to mind.

I can agree that if Boren asked to transfer to OSU it could be a bit of a problem for JT to say "yes", but not as much as it would be to say "no".

Out of the norm? yes
Create some tension between the programs? perhaps
Rule against it? no

And how can JT look the kid in the eye and say "You could play at OSU, you are the kind of kid we want at OSU, and I wanted you two years ago at OSU - but I am afraid of the repercussions."

I would be disappointed if Boren said "May I" and JT declined. The rivalry certainly overshadows the relationship between the two schools, but that is not a fair reason to say "no". Should it come JT should look at the transfer request on its face - and I believe he will.

And to take it one step further, imagine you are JT and you said "no" and there were no restrictions on talking to the press. Give me the quote that justifies your decision?

He was nearly a buckeye before adored Bo stopped by and met with him. I do not mean that sarcastically, the guy was a legend in that Michigan legacy household. Hard to turn that down.

Things got bad in september, and he did not budge. In December, Carr's entire program got the boot (other than Jackson, who also delivered McGuff), and yet he was excited about the new direction. He jumped ship in March when he had enough of RRod's coaching approach.

lets make an assumption, justin boren becomes a buckeye.

next nov who wants to beat miching the worst on this entire team? and the nov after that? how about during summer camp this year? next year? how about during next years winter conditioning?

do you not see something? maybe he is a quitter? maybe hell be the one who has the oppurtunity to step on a throat in the big house, maybe he wont step on it, maybe hell go for a lethal slash to the jugular.

to some extent its a calculate risk the result will be a kid going for the jugular or a kid who performs jigai, i doubt the result or impact of a kid, especially like a boren will be anywhere in between.

for those of you who dont get that, the kid is in the breed of schelegel. hes a warrior, kill or be killed...

It's not uncommon for recruits to have OSU and scUM #1 and #2.. I can think of a recent fairly high-profile recruit who had that order. :wink:

These guys are picking what's best for them, I doubt they're putting as much emphasis on the rivalry. I'm sure some are, but others quite obviously want the best situation for themselves.

Why would JT say no if Justin wants to join the team? It doesn't cost him a scholarship, and he gets a veteran player who can teach the new guys a thing or two for a least one year. Justin knows that he can't play for one season, works his butt off, and though he may think that he deserves a starting job in 2009, provides depth to the OL even if he doesn't start.

As for the public relations side of the equation, the media will always find something to focus on when it comes to tOSU football program. This would seem to be a minor issue that JT and his staff will find easy to ignore (not that they listen to anything said by the media anyway).

I havd no issue with him becoming a Buckeye.. but i really wish Justin, his dad, and his relatives would end this UM bashing they are engaging in..

Move on.. say u didnt feel u were fitting in under the new regime, and move on..

This nonsense in the papers and the radio is turning me off to the Boren family
