OL Justin Boren (Official Thread)

I havd no issue with him becoming a Buckeye.. but i really wish Justin, his dad, and his relatives would end this UM bashing they are engaging in..

Move on.. say u didnt feel u were fitting in under the new regime, and move on..

This nonsense in the papers and the radio is turning me off to the Boren family

I don't believe it's wise to take these things public. But in the big picture, comments made so far have been very mild. I suspect, the Boren's felt some explanation was necessary. Maybe they said more than they should have, but again, it's not like they've ripped UM or RR to shreds. I also suspect (but don't know) that Boren's frustration runs a little deeper than simply not seeing eye to eye with the new coaching staff. Something about having tried to talk to the coaches and nobody listening. It might have been the wrong tactic, but they are listening now.

There is another precedent for a player sacrificing a schollie to move from one Big Ten school to another. The two schools were big rivals - and one of them was OSU.

His name was Lawrence Funderburke and I watched him score 12 points to help beat IU in St John in 1993.

I'm probably dating myself, but I think Brad Sellers beat Funderburke to the precedent. :wink2:

Family Values

I've only heard this term in regards to politics.

If we are sure this kid can help us then let's bring him in! If not then we should stay away. It's not going to help him, or us.

Funderburke was a must have for the B-Ball team. If we didn't have him, we would not have been that good in the early 90s. He had a long, decent pro career as well.

What's the big deal? He won't cost us a scholly, so even if he "can't help us" why should we "stay away"? It's a no-lose situation...

OSU owes Boren nothing. Not a scholarship, team spot, or family favoritism (Zach Boren). If he brings his tremendous talent and work ethic to Columbus, he could be a huge asset to this squad. If he arrives with the wrong attitude, OSU can let him move on to another school.

Had he chosen OSU years ago instead of Michigan, he would pushing for a starting spot today, imo.

I don't think anyone here is saying we "owe" him anything. We thought highly enough of him to officially offer him during recruitment, and he had us as "high" interest and almost chose us (save a late-night cloak and dagger visit from Darth Schembechler). If he wants to play for us bad enough to foot the bill himself (actually Dad would foot the bill), then by all means we allow him to walk on. There is absolutely no reason not to...

Has it really been that much? Or is it the same press release and radio interview getting rehashed over and over and over?
That's what I was wondering. AFAIK the only time Boren has said anything was the release on Wednesday to explain why he felt he needed to leave, which appeared to be (in part) a response to the FreeP article labeling him 'soft.'

Much ado about nothing. Let the kid be.

Anyone know what's the deadline for transferring?

and just what is the limit for walk on players?

It is a lose situation. We do have limits on players, scholarship and walk on.

Recruits are going to consider the depth of the position before they decide to become a Buckeye.

I'm going to wait to see how this unfolds. Good Football story for March:oh:.
