OL Justin Boren (Official Thread)

There is another precedent for a player sacrificing a schollie to move from one Big Ten school to another. The two schools were big rivals - and one of them was OSU.

His name was Lawrence Funderburke and I watched him score 12 points to help beat IU in St John in 1993.

"J.T. White" played for the Buckeyes and for the Wolverines. He played for the Buckeyes through the 1942 National Championship season then went to serve in WWII. He then attended TSUN and won a National Championship in 1947 for them.

ND won the 1947 AP NC. Michigan won it in 1948 unless the Ann Arbor news awarded a 1947 title. There was no coaches poll in these years. LINK

I don't understand how anybody could not get behind him coming to tOSU. Even if he never played a down, the shockwaves would reverberate up north for years. This is the equivalent of Alex Boone quitting last spring and walking on at um...actually worse, because Alex isn't a legacy.

Take My Son, Please

Departing OL Justin Boren's Father to Ohio State: 'Take My Son, Please'

Posted Mar 27th 2008 11:35AM by Adam Jacobi

The Justin Boren transfer saga continues to get weird. Did we say weird? We mean weirder.

[...]

The most curious aspect of the decision to court Ohio State is probably the scholarship situation. While it stands to reason that a starting sophomore offensive lineman at Michigan could probably name his new school and receive a scholarship offer, that can't be the case at OSU; Big Ten rules prohibit awarding scholarships to athletes transferring inside the conference.

Consider that. A former Wolverine would rather pay for his son to play at Ohio State than at Michigan for free. Ouch. We're fairly certain that Michigan fans' reaction to that scenario starts with F and rhymes with "Tuck you, buddy."

Naturally, it's far too early to advise said Michigan fans to buy one-way tickets to Fourandeightsville for 2008, but what they've got in place right now scarcely bears any resemblance to a football team that's ready to compete at a high level. Should they be concerned? Probably. Are they always concerned anyway? Well, yes. Now, for once, it might be justified.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

lol you gata crack a bit of a smile that he wants to come to osu. Just think how odd it would be for Boren at first if he were to come to tosu. I mean this team (OSU) has been whippin on your old team and this is your RIVAL. I for one would welcome boren because you have to feel for his situation. We all knew RR wasn't exactly the family man type of coach, and if boren chose michigan and Lloyd Carr because of the family like atmosphere which is common at osu then I have no problem with him chosing UM in the first place. UM, under coach carr was a program you respected and its not boren's fault the coach he chosed to play for isn't coaching him anymore.

So I hope he falls to us, because that could also all but close the doors to Ohio shut to michigan.

very true... but what better way to better yourself than face those same dt's every day in practice? I was thinkin the same thing as far as boren as well... Next year, we might need him to fill in to either start or provide depth if he were to actually get accepted by OSU and come here.

I will be surprised if Justin Boren is playing for Ohio State.

I agree with this... While I feel that he and his dad have a great deal of respect for Ohio State and looking back it would have been a good choice but..... to pass up a scholly and put all this pressure and added attention to the situation doesnt seem like the best path to chose. I, however, would welcome him with open arms if he came here and I would like it... in the long run it would make more sense to go elsewhere. Anyone who holds the values that Woody and Bo brought to the game I like and have respect for regardless of there school affiliation (IE him and his dad).
