Game Thread Ohio State 45, Northwestern 10 (Nov. 8)

I have nothing but disdain for Tressel. Most notably the fake punt, followed by the deep pass just after it. Less of an issue with the final TD but still classless to not take a knee. And given play calling in prior years, this is hardly an aberration.

Tressel was managing the clock with that play, nothing more... Still - Taking a knee doesn't get you to the NC either.

I personally think we're seeing a new era of "Tresselball" where he gets a bit more agressive (how can you not with a QB like TP?), but given the talent and initiative this team is demonstrating, he's going to have a hard time reigning it in without having it be detrimental to the team.

Great win today... It is unreal how Terrelle is progressing... I had to replace the brakes on my car today and dragged the TV into the garage... I'm glad I did.

On Terrelle's TD pass to Nicol, everyone in the crowd around me was yelling "Throw it away! Throw it away!"...then BAM! TOUCHDOWN!

Crowd went nuts. Guess that's why he didn't want to throw it away. Gotta get used to it Buckeyes...he wants to make plays and, the majority of the time, he does. :)

Terrelle didn't make many bad throws. One went about a yard out of bounds to Robo. Robo dropped one he should have had. Couldn't really tell what happened on Hartline's dropped/low pass on a third down. Very efficient day for the young man. The conversions on 3rd and long were superb. Just so much talent. He really stands out there above the rest on the field (besides Beanie).

Beanie's run was...really just indescribable. :yow2:

I can't say it enough...I love to watch him run.

Great crowd, lots of fun, exciting plays, and a Buckeyes win.

Go Bucks! Beat Illinois!

Our guys made plays today on both sides of the ball and that is always great to see. Pryor, Beanie, Hartline, Robo, Nichol, all made plays on Offense and THAT was the difference today.

The Defense continued to get turnovers and other than the first drive did a great job of shutting down NW.

Throw in some solid special teams play and a little trickeration and the boys had a pretty convincing, if not dominating performance today. Just what the doctor ordered.

Now we need to do the same thing the next two weeks and let the chips fall where they may.

Re: today's game....

Pryor really looked great today. The only bad play he made eded up being a TD anyway (the TD pass to Nicol)
His phenominl athletic ability overcame a really bad decision there.
Hp ost us later if he tries the same thing against a better team. Just throw it away next time, unless it's third or fourth down, anyway.

Playcalling:
The first TD pass to Robiskie - that's what I've been talking about! Play action boot on second down, and a positive play result.

We did go deep a few of times o first down - one long TD pass to Robo.

However: For the most part, once again way too predictable on first and second downs. Third and long again all day. It's amazng how many plays Pryor's made the last two games on third and long. Not a good situation to be in though. Not what you'd call a recipe for success for an offense. I think up through the third quarter, almost all of our yardage for the game (exception: Beanie's long TD run) came on third down.

I guess we'll probably have to wait for the first quarter of the scUM game to see a mixed bag of playcalling on first and second downs.

Boom looked really good out there again. Great vision.

Abdallah played very well. Still miss Denlinger. Nate Williams had 2 sacks but lost contain again as well.

Going to have to be much better against the read option next week.

Really the only thing that I have to say about today's game is what is up with all the penalties? I can't remember when the team has had this many penalties in a season. It is driving me nuts, not talking poisonous ones either.
the false starts are something of a staple.

I had a big problem with the second late hit call, and the first one was iffy.

I made a little chart during the game today to take note of some of the play calling. One of the categories I had was "Putting Pryor in a bad situation". In this instance, I defined a bad situation as 3rd and 6 or longer and coming after run plays on first and second down. IIRC, there were 7 times where I defined it a "bad situation" and Pryor converted 5 (+/- 1). That is just fantastic production by TP. His evolution as a QB is awesome to watch.

Then Andre Ware chimed in with pure gold. It seemed pretty obvious Fitz was laughing at that call with them, imo.

Exactly what I thought. Buddies watching the game with said "why's he talking to our guys", I said "He's laughing with them. He knows that was BS". I managed to tune out Ware right after he was talking about his coat. If you're going to Chicago in November, and you don't pack a coat...

Yeah when the player possessing the ball AND the player tackling him are both in bounds, and the QB hadn't given up on the play, I refuse to believe it would have been a late hit out of bounds.

First of all, [censored] Andre Ware.

He treated the game like it was his [censored]ing radio show. Seriously, shut your ass up and call the [censored]ing game. Also, if we wanted to run the score up then why didnt we just keep Beanie and Pryor in there? And excuse me if I am wrong but how many times did you run the score up while you were at Houston? Shut the [censored] up.

The second late hit out of bounds penalty was ridiculous. The player had his feet on the field of play and was still in bounds when he got hit. If you want to be pussies and call late hit out of bounds penalties while the runner is still on the field, then be pussies and add a freaking 1 yard zone against the sidelines where you cant hit the ball carrier.

Beanie had a nice game, but he definitely didnt look 100%, or even 90% to me. Its hard to tell though when he consistently has to dodge 2 Northwestern players in our backfield every damn play because we cant block for [censored]. They did manage to open up some holes today, but im still disappointed with how they performed, although they did a good job pass protecting for the most part.

Pryor = me playing it on NCAA on the 360. Enough said.

Very impressed with Herron today, he looked the best he has in his young Buckeye career.

Was very disappointed in the defense at first, but they ended up coming around and playing well. Jenkins made another great play on the forced fumble.

That is all for now.

EDIT: Also on the Boone 'headbutt,' yeah it was wrong but that Northwestern player has a career in acting. I dont know if he tripped, or pulled a Varejo, but it wasnt as brutal as im sure most are making it out to be.

Kid may have a future in Basketball where acting is everything! You act for a foul, YOU GET IT! That was the funniest thing I've ever seen.. It was boneheaded, but I was cracking up.. It looked like the kid fell dead stiff! :slappy:
