Negative Recruiting/PSU chatter (LJ Sr. Thread split)

I'm less concerned with him having played the race card in recruiting than I am with any coach who was on the Paterno staff both alongside Sandusky and during the cover-up years. I (and plenty of others in the PSU threads) have always maintained that they all must have had some level of knowledge. I just hope the athletic department has thoroughly vetted him on the subject.

Maybe it's just me, but. What LJ might have said on the recruiting trail is less an issue than his being part of the Ped State scandal. It seems to me his keeping quiet about years of pedophile abuse on campus for the sake of winning football games, shows a very flawed priority list. Maybe not morally bankrupt, but a far from model shaper of young people.
My disgust is over the enabling of a pedophile. To me that's totally inexcusable.

But, what the hell, it was only 50 to 100 kids or so! They need to get over it. We need to just ignore what happened and who was there and could have stopped it. Because it's all about winning football games. Right?

I missed Ord's post by a couple minutes but obviously am on the same wavelength.

Can we move this conversation to how LJ Sr. can help/improve our defense and recruiting? Without ANY concrete evidence of his "past transgressions" (all rumor mill material and a couple of years old anecdotes on comment threads on a few websites), all the reasons why people dislike/hate him, are based on pure speculation. Shouldn't that stuff be in the rumor mill? I agree everyone has an opinion and should be allowed to voice it, but all the the posters who are anti-LJ have no reliable information and are beginning to sound petty and trite (not trying to start a fight, just pointing out how you look from an objective eye). I come to this thread to learn more information oh how our new DL coach prepares his players and his track record on the field and recruiting. Not to hear about people trying to stick it to Penn State, throwing out wild accusation (without any substantial proof thats all they are), and trying to act like our program and coaches are "Holier than thou".

As it has been mentioned many times before, this is college football and its a dog eat dog world out there. I don't put anything past big time school programs to get recruits and Im sure LJ has done his dirt. If you don't even like the hint of "shady" behavior at all then I suggest you stop following big time sports, especially in college.Even what he is "accused" of is harmless; telling African-American players, as an African-American coach, that he can mentor and take care of them better. I mean you guys are seriously complaining about that? You don't think a huge reason, if not he only reason at some schools, why programs employ people of color is to take advantage of that situation? You don't think that factored into the Withers and this hire? The accusations concerning the Sandusky scandal are even more ridicolous. Public Relations training would tell you that if Penn St. believed he was involved in any way or he came up in the freeh report (which was very long and extensive), they'd cut ties with him immediately. Obviously none of that happened, so unless you have some new news that hasn't been uncovered in the over two year Federal investigation, then I suggest people leave him alone on that matter. In conclusion, I urge people to give this guy a chance and at least wait until our DL starts looking like Swiss Cheese (don't think its going to happen though) before you start badmouthing the guy. Recruits, players, and other coaches (the most important people in all of this) have nothing but good things to say about him….

Since he's on the staff now, not sure where the ban-worthy line is on criticism.

Maybe the board needs to divvy up into an All-In/Not All-In for LJ.

Everyone wants to root for the guy they just have to puke a little first.

Given the history involved, I'm afraid I'll be stuck at the puking-a-little stage. (The hire literally does leave me a little queasy.) I can't imagine a circumstance where I would actually want to root for anyone I suspect to be complicit in the Sandusky horror story.

*Missed the post above me by a minute or two.

My apologies for posting my concerns that referenced
no reliable information and are beginning to sound petty and trite

Indeed, from the very beginning, virtually all the posts on this board concerning the silly business at PedState consisted of
throwing out wild accusation (without any substantial proof thats all they are)

We would all do well to remember that
The accusations concerning the Sandusky scandal are even more ridicolous. Public Relations training would tell you that if Penn St. believed he was involved in any way or he came up in the freeh report (which was very long and extensive), they'd cut ties with him immediately.
Because God knows this has been the ironclad practice at PedState from the beginning (whatever decade that was that it began.)

Could we possibly split off the talk about Johnson allegedly having ties to Sandusky and using the race card to another thread for those that wish to complain about that stuff together? And keep this thread for those that want to talk about johnson recruiting and his schemes and player development.

Knowing what we have seen about the priorities of the cult at Ped State, it would be a big leap to give LJ a free pass because he didn't get immediately dismissed from Ped State. After all, everyone acknowledges his world class recruiting ability. Can we honestly say, the BOT at that time, didn't think about the future of Ped State football? And recruiting being a huge part of the football future? I think they were looking for an excuse NOT to fire him. Evidently, they were satisfied with his story.
And we all hope he was vetted well. But, perhaps legally, OSU couldn't ask some questions about his knowledge of the scandal.

One of LJ's craziest recruiting experiences. The Logan El announcement almost caused a riot at the ESPN Zone at the Baltimore Harbor. LINK

Classy. Downright Lebron-level classy.

BTW, I see we've been banished to the back corner of the janitor's closet.

I've got an old Mr. Coffee machine I can bring in, if one of you guys can find an extension cord. We could fit it in on that metal shelf between the boxes of urinal cakes. A couple of cushions, or a folding chair or two might be nice, as well...

Larry Johnson can hold a Black Panther rally in Mirror Lake for all I care as long as he wins recruiting, wins on the field, and represents the University with dignity and grace.
For all I care, Larry Johnson can show up to games dressed like Buck-I-Guy, and celebrate OSU victories by streaking down High Street, as long as he represents the University with dignity and grace.
