Negative Recruiting/PSU chatter (LJ Sr. Thread split)

Maybe there was an occurrence that led him to believe that.....I don't know.....nor do I really care that he said it. How many recruits did it cost Ohio State? It's apparent he no longer believes that or he wouldn't be at Ohio State. If the administration & head coach see him as a good fit to represent not only the football program, but one of the most prestigious universities in the country, then who am I to question it?
Bingo!

Otherwise, what that would imply about his character would not be flattering.

Or he felt scorned by PSU for passing him up as HC twice and went to the program that would burn PSU the most, all the while likely getting a nice pay bump...maybe us racists pay really well and he is fine with it under the circumstances. And it cost us at least three recruits that I know of. One is an All-Pro LB for San Fran, another was a 2nd round draft pick to the Bengals, and the other was a 5 star DB who wasn't used properly by PSU at running back.

I know we typically everything and I do see the obvious advantages to this hire. I think with Johnson Sr. we see a killer haul in '15 and beyond. I also think he is going to do a tremendous job considering the DL talent we already have and will continue to bring in. If he can do that without doing what I mentioned above, I am more than willing to move on.

And just to clarify, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm not trying to prevent you from voicing yours, I'm just giving my own as a counter. I don't blame those wanting to take a "wait and see" approach.

I do have a gut feeling that in a year or two, we're all going to be raving about his coaching & recruiting. He's pissed off with the Penn State HC situation, will want to make it known what they missed out on & will show them that Franklin isn't putting up a fence around PA. I'm excited & look forward to what he brings to the table.

I have an EXTREMELY hard time believing anyone would be "ok" with that. Proud of your race/culture/beliefs/etc. but you're going to work for the people that "hate" you because they pay well? Come on bro.....lol

Maybe he's really working undercover for Penn State & will turn all our recruits to them :panic:.

Why should we assume that he ever believed that? If his thing was negative recruiting and he found some statistics he could use to make a competing program look bad, well then...

There's nothing wrong with liking or hating the hire. People have different approaches to sports fandom. If the extent of your concern is trophies and recruiting pipelines and shit, awesome. Others might have issues with their school hiring a bullshit race baiter.

I'll wait and see, but as far as "well, it's OK with Urban" goes, Urban Meyer can get fired like anyone else. He has millions of dollars on the line. He'll do what's necessary to win them trophies.

Then it's nothing but negative recruiting....which every program in the country uses at some point in time. His comments obviously didn't kill Ohio State's recruiting.

I give a sh1t. To me integrity is more important than winning football games.

I agree when it comes to my own personal integrity.

That said, all major CFB programs operate in some pretty dark grey areas, so if you equate that to your personal integrity the only way you could follow a team you were sure allowed you to have integrity is if you picked out a nice Ivy League team to root for. Trust me I'm not knocking you, I have considered it.

I hope we as a fan base not act like those simplistic imbeciles from PSU and pretend major college football is anything more than a semi pro league working its ass off to get around the outmoded rules of its archaic governing body. The way they cling to this Jo Pa as Santa/Christ/Mother Teresa incarnate thing is just disturbing.

Joe Pa manipulated the hell out of the system to keep the "success with honor" scam looking good on the surface. Jim Tressel had some shady shit going on under his watch and lied his ass off to the NCAA about it. None of the southern coaches even really bother to hide it all that much.

To me you either make your peace with them all being dirty or you go Ivy League/DIII (and then find out all the shit they are probably pulling).

So in your magical word coaches don't talk negatively about one anther.... Right slugger. If you want to play the integrity game then root for Yale and brown, or Wisconsin-whitewater. There's going to be some things you find out about D1 coaches that integrity is sometimes questionable. It happens. If you rooted for Tressell than you could say he didn't have integrity either, yet I'm sure you cheered on his NC, sugar and rose bowl win along with the big 10 titles
