NCAA Investigation into Indiana Basketball Program

Really nothing coming any time soon...

I think that maybe the NCAA dug up some extra phone calls, 3 way calls that IU didn't report and lied about in the investigation...

I think that Sampson could be gone, but he will finish the season and nothing will come of this till summer time...

It's close to 100. Not sure I would catagorize it as "some". He got popped at his old gig for 500 calls. This is in the same ball park and it is a repeat offence.

Nothing might not happen until Spring but being accused of "major violations" probably means that he is gone and I would not be surprised if IU got penalized as well. I would even think that the recruits that he has signed for next year might be given the opportunity to look elsewhere.

'08 SF Devin Ebanks? Seems like a logjam, but say he called up Matta after he got his release.

I first thought of '08 NY PF Kevin Jones who had IU high on his list, but then remembered he went to the 'neers.

Of course programs want to get back to where they were.

Money Money Money.

As college sports revenues continue to skyrocket how can you stop this stuff? The rules are designed to manage collegiate athletic programs that bring in tens of millions of dollars. The concept of multi-million dollar "amateur" programs coached by multi-millionaire coaches simply makes no sense.

Kevin Jones would have been nice but.... I would think that we would only look at a PF type player.

I have talked to some IU alums and they were not happy when Sampson was tired because of his track record.

How can somebody at a major university be this stupid? :slappy:

Cue the Matta to Bloomington rumor-mill.
I don't see them taking the Indiana job. He has only been here for three years and has a very good recruiting class coming. The rumors I'm sure will fly but I just don't see him going especially with his health problems.

Today's Sun-Times article. It's worth going to just to see the two pictures of Sanction that they chose to run in the sidebar.

Recruiting scandal hits Sampson, IU :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Colleges

Sampson ??failed to deport himself ... with the generally recognized high standard of honesty?? and ??failed to promote an atmosphere for compliance within the men?s basketball program,?? according to the report.

OK, IU; it's gut-check time. Sampson's brought you back on the court, in the rankings and on the recruiting trail. He's also proven himself to be a repeat NCAA offender and one who'll lie about it to both school administrators and NCAA investigators. So.....let's see how the--self-professed--cleanest school in the conference chooses to handle it. Balls in your court, IU.

After reading a few more detail I believe IU should fire him on the spot. Moving forward to reap the benefits of this disastrous hire is lose-lose for IU. Any banner they win this year is coming down next year.

I hate to see this crap happening anywhere in the Big Ten, but now that it has I just wished it was made public before IU played at Illinois.

And the comparisons to what UM is doing with RR (selling out to a "win at all costs" coach with character issues) are startling.
