2025 NC OL David Sanders Jr. (Tennessee Verbal)

Casting a wider net definitely needs to happen but I’m just saying that landing a few more high star low 4 stars and missing out on Sanders wouldn’t change the Frye criticisms.

I want a wider net but I want a few more elite OTs no matter what. And with the portal options I don’t really see how much better a wider net really makes us feel when we miss out on the elite guys. I mean, it would still suck.

Well taken on all of those points, I don't expect to win these battles very often. My problem is not having a contingency plan and casting a wider net. And that any OL outside of Ohio seems to be listing us on their top schools but have no intention of coming here.

There is a problem with Frye and his recruiting if this one does not go our way, honestly similar to Stud. But like I said earlier, let's see what happens before we jump to conclusions.
I think Frye’s recruiting may be worse than Stud’s. It’s at least up for debate.

We should win these once in awhile. We seem to be losing them all

Idk if I fully agree with that. Sanders Jr wasn't seen as a realistic get for the entire cycle, he was always going to be a longshot. If OSU was able to land for example Matty Augustine and/or Micah Debose, and then get Nolan Davenport to commit to OSU. Most of us would be saying that's a successful class at OT.

It can be argued that Frye is worse or on par with Stud.
I don't understand not pursuing more kids. Especially when OL is so hard to predict long term

Just to let everyone know, here's the OL offer breakdown for OSU vs Bama and UGA:
Ohio State = 16
Alabama = 34
Georgia = 40
:confused:

I think we are in agreement? I was saying that Sanders wasn’t seen as a realistic prospect early and people have forgotten that during the courtship.

To be honest, I think as a Buckeye fan we are so used to success on the recruiting trail. We lose it when we are not performing the same in all phases. Rightfully so, as if we are wanting to be considered elite like the Bama, Georgia's we have to recruit like them as well. I remember that exact thought process when we lost Jackson Carman to Clemson. We at least kept Lowe home this time! We are consistent year in an year out and the reason for the continued success. Clemson has dropped drastically since NIL and you are seeing it now.

Yeah, had to reread, it seems like we are in agreement :lol:

Only thing is, fans are acting like missing out on southern OL is something new. I can’t remember OSU ever landing many elite southern OL. I think OSU has signed less than 10 since the last NC. And speaking of that last title, OSU was starting a former DE as their starting RT. Let’s not act like OSU was landing 5stars from GA, NC, etc with regularity. Development with a solid base of Midwestern OL(of course mainly from OH) has been the OSU calling card. And the Portal is always an option.

Not to turn this into a recruiting thread, but it's not about the South. OSU routinely recruits players in the top 3 at every position on the field.

We have not recruited an OL rated higher than 5th at their position since Jackson in 2021.
Yeah, we should probably continue this convo in the 2025 recruiting thread or the overall OSU recruiting thread

$1mil a year PLUS(rumored) house for his parents, is a steep price for a position that has one of the steepest learning curve from HS to college. Especially when he would step in earning probably one of the top salaries in that room and had done nothing in college yet. I'd rather watch fakeUT deal with that locker room fallout, similar to seeing how Seaton is dealing with the locker room at CU now...

Easy to say when we're not in front.
This one should have been wrapped up months ago. Ohio State is a bigger pond than Tennessee. Ohio State has whiffed a couple years in a row so the need is urgently there.

I think what we’re seeing is that elite OOS OL simply don’t want to sign here for whatever reason. Frye seems to be the easiest answer. But is it the correct one ?

There's also the pesky detail that these are humans with their own wants and needs. Maybe they just don't view Ohio State as a bigger pond. Just because we need somebody, doesn't mean if we don't get them then somebody failed.
