Am agreed in your thinking that it wouldn't be smart to cut Frye now. As the season progresses, IF the OL gets better (Oregon will be first big test), and then we overcome Michigan, then believe that'll buy him another year. Can see how Day will put out 'feelers' to see what great OL coach and recruiter might be willing to join the Force. But....wonder how it'll play if gets out. Cannot foresee the target not telling his HC, who will scream tampering, and Frye will get a glimmer. Could implode the season, methinks. Curiouser and curiouser. Go Bucks!

If Sanders is as good as advertised, the Med School angle is moot, he's going to college to play football and go to the NFL. The whole medical school thing will be on the back burner for a while

I am of the belief that there is something off here. Elite National OL Recruits are looking for reasons not to sign with OSU. Ohio State will not be able to compete for championships without some elite OL. Ryan Day waited 1 year too long to flush Coombs and it probably cost us a Natty. Saban would have run Frye after last year’s OL recruiting failure. Saban expected great recruiting AND great OL coaching wire to wire.

Letting Frye go before the season is not in the cards as the early signing day is in December and the seasons starts now. But if were Day I would start looking for a replacement so that he can pull the trigger the day the season ends.

Tim Drevno might be that guy. He's a terrible OC, but his credentials as an OL coach are there. No idea if he can recruit.

I knew someone would bring him up. But there's a major difference between the 2. Krenzel was NEVER seen as an NFL caliber player, while Sanders is seen as a possible 1st round pick and is the #1 overall recruit. Krenzel not having any football future past OSU allowed him to follow his career path(even if he currently isn't working in the science industry). Sanders and Krenzel aren't the same, and Idk of many former 5stars who have serious NFL aspirations who have foregone them for a career in science, health, etc(Myron Rolle who went to FSU is the only name I can think of)

Maybe we should have trotted John Frank out to talk to Sanders? He played in the pros, 49ers I believe, and then went back to medical school, tOSU I believe. Now practices in SF I believe. There were a bunch of Buckeyes that were geared up for medical school, but for whatever reason, didn't follow through. Looking at Taylor Decker, who's been in the league for what, 10-12 years now, as an OT, and just re-upped for some nice change, can retire after 15, still around 37ish, four years of med school, four years of residency, and still have a 25+ career wearing a stethoscope. Would like to have a drink with Krenzel someday, and see what got him off his path. Agree he wasn't NFL material, but the announcers always going ga-ga about his bio-chem major or somesuch, (couldn't pronounce, let alone understand). Anyway, Sanders will go where he wants to. Personally would want to be treated by someone from THE Ohio State Med School, rather than Tennessee's. Go Bucks! (you gotta read the diplomas doctors hang on their walls).

I think OSU went all in on Sanders. From what I have listened to, if Sanders goes elsewhere, losing him is not a result of having a lack of effort to get him.

I listened to a podcast yesterday, and they shared something interesting. OSU only offered 15 o- linemen, compared to 40 to 50 + offers of other programs. That figure is scary, and leads to big vulnerability.

I would tend to agree on development so far, but not great improvement in moments where it mattered. We'll see this year and hopefully CK is what he needs to get on track in both departments given the past relationship.

But on this specific thread, if we miss on Sanders after going all in and not offering enough guys as contingency plans...that would be a big problem and one that seems to be recurring. Someone above mentioned how few offers we made at the position, Even if we land Sanders (big "if"), we are short at a position that needs numbers by definition. Sanders is a critical recruit and we'll see where it lands, but regardless Frye and/or the rest of the staff need to really step it up here and not just hope for Portal transfers to fill all voids.

Years back, Myron Rolle was #1 recruit in the country from NJ chose FL over us because of their med school... did well in college; draft was impacted because he told everyone surgery was his future, played a couple yrs; Rhodes scholar and now a neurosurgeon

Yeah, he's definitely the outlier, and I included him in my post. But he's the only name that I can think of in this scenario

Just my opinion but I don’t think bags or medical school are biggest factor.

He’s a southern kid who will likely pick a southern school closer to home with a rabid fan base and a team recruiting well and trying to get back to national prominence in the post Saban SEC.

I can easily take off my scarlet glasses and see why we would lose this one. And I’m not defending Frye but anyone that thinks a Sanders from, say, the Chicago area doesn’t have a MUCH higher probability of signing up with Frye is lying to themselves.

Frye needs to win more of these without a doubt but not many thought we would land him early in the process for the reasons I mentioned yet everyone seems to have forgotten those reasons now.

Well taken on all of those points, I don't expect to win these battles very often. My problem is not having a contingency plan and casting a wider net. And that any OL outside of Ohio seems to be listing us on their top schools but have no intention of coming here.

There is a problem with Frye and his recruiting if this one does not go our way, honestly similar to Stud. But like I said earlier, let's see what happens before we jump to conclusions.
