Name, Image, & Likeness (NIL) at tOSU

LMAO no…it does not. The article alludes to a rumored 25mil. But doesn’t include any deals or what TAMU players were given. It doesn’t even say which player committed to TAMU because of NIL. It only quotes Erb talking about an NIL deal somebody else got to go to Jackson State.

Again, people create their own narratives.

Do the A&M boosters have a non-profit? What’s the name of it? Or are they just literally handing out checks?

I linked an article from Sports Illustrated 3 posts up.

It's not just a bunch of made up internet BS unless you are going to go all "fake news" on us now.

The NIL deal is between the NFP and the athletes.

I bolded the NFP part. This is how it works. Exactly as I laid it out to you lord only knows how many pages back.
  • The "foundation raises money
  • The foundation pays athletes for their NIL as part of their mission (better communities or what have you)
  • The foundation gets it's money from people who are more interested in the spokespeople than the actual mission
This in is addition to anything a more formal UT approved NIL advisory company could work out for a kid.

Ergo extra money.

Now, let's just take a second and look at the conditions that would have to be present for your "they don't work" theory to be valid:

1) Every person involved in these type of NFPs at places like Texas, Texas A&M, OSU and a handful of SEC schools would have to be wasting time and money to set these things up. OR they are all so stupid that they are wasting all this time and money setting something up that doesn't work.

2) Athletes offered money to let "Horns with Hearts" type entities use their NIL for money would have to really only care about the foundations mission and not be motivated by the money at all.

If those two conditions are present then your theory is valid.

I think anyone beyond the age of reason knows that #2 isn't valid and I'll just leave it at that.

1. While it will be used for recruiting, that is more for current players. This is absolutely different than what the A&M rumors out there are.

2. Did any of their recruits cite this as a reason why they committed there? Kelvin Banks is only at Texas because Cristobal left Oregon. That’s the only way you can say it “works.”

You become a current player and get it as a part of your income for the next 4 years. That's a pretty strong inducement to go to a school as a recruit.

I don't know what the "rumors" are but every big school has, or is in the process of creating, NFP funds like this. It isn't a big stretch of the imagination to think they may have used something like this to land the greatest recruiting class of all time. Again, it doesn't bother me. Congrats to them. They played the game better than everyone else (allegedly) and won.

This is where I feel like you are trying to act like kids wouldn't go to a school for the extra money and refuse to believe it unless some kid comes out and says he only went there for the NIL money.

Quinn Ewers didn't skip his SR year of HS and come to Columbus for a year to experience the weather. He didn't go back to Texas, once they passed NIL laws, just because he was home sick.

Money talks man.

Like I said, it will a absolutely be used in recruiting, but I’m not under the impression this is strictly for recruiting. If so, I’m sure UT’s boosters could afford to pay more than one position group.

Well, to say it works…yes I would need to hear one say it played a factor in his decision. They got a bunch of guys from Texas like they always do. Their top OT was all set to leave until his coach left. It wasn’t that big a deal to him then.

It’s called AMPLIFY. Just like how OSU has The Foundation

Horns with Heart said “The Pancake Factory” would start in August 2022. The organization said it hopes to expand the program to other football position groups and Longhorns athletes in the future.

They are just getting started. Same as everyone else.

and we're still coming back to you saying that you think an extra $50K (or whatever amount) here and there couldn't be an inducement for a kid to come to a certain school....because no kid has explicitly said, in print, that it was.

Come on man.

Come on man.

If that’s what you are getting out of what I said, then more power to you.

Do you know what was offered at other schools? Maybe 50k was a pay cut. If a kid was offered more at one school but still chose 50k, one can reasonably assume money wasn’t an inducement. And without knowing that or hearing them say it, I’m not saying it. I’m sorry that I won’t immediately agree with you.

Making a lot more sense with those board additions. Can't wait to see what they can do

I don't think the plan was ever to have the Schottenstein kid, Urban and a few players. If this was going to be anywhere near aiding OSU, they would need some reputable names with distinguished backgrounds. I didn't see them messing around on this one, if it means competing for(and winning) National championships
