Mike Gundy (HC Oklahoma St. Cowboys)

Think she'll gets her facts straight before she publishes a piece like that again? Any chance that he calls her in, clears the air, gives her an exclusive, and she'll sing his praises from the rooftops?

The bulk of the material she uses to extrapolate from the "I'm Nervous" quote to Bobby Reid is a scared and witless spoon-fed child, it comes from Internet Forum boards.

Basically Jenni forgot the number one rule of the blog and forum world of college football fandom - believe little that you read as an inside info claim on the internet.
I don't believe you.

One thing I'd like to ask Pat Forde and all the other butt-noodles who are circling the wagon for this woman...anyone think that if this had been a male reporter he would have gotten an invitation to appear on Good Morning America? Anyone?

Possibly the greatest hypocrisy in history are all the asswad media types whining that the coach should have taken her aside and talked to her privately...which of course all columnists and media people do...oh wait, you mean they air their dirty laundry, personal animosity, and character assassination out in public for all the world to see? Who knew?

Hilarious :tibor:

Gundy breaks new ground with post-victory meltdown

By Sean McClelland
Staff Writer

Jenni Carlson is my new hero.
She's the columnist who wrote whatever prompted Oklahama State football coach Mike Gundy to make a fool of himself by screaming at her in public following Saturday's win over Texas Tech.
It's all over the Internet, this embarrassing, yet highly entertaining, tirade.

Can you recall a victorious coach or manager ever lashing out this way? I'm guessing it was after a loss when then-Kansas City Royals manager Hal McRae made like a tornado in his office, sending shards of glass into an unsuspecting reporter's forehead. It was definitely after a loss (I was in the room) when then-Mets manager Dallas Green cleared his desk with one mighty sweep of his arm, scattering papers and a glass of water.
Victory is usually a time to spew platitudes, especially at the college level, where fans and media are generally somewhat gullible and willing to go along with anything Coach Dull tells them.
But Gundy, bless his heart, apparently didn't get that memo.

You ignorant, arrogant piece of shit! Do you not see the fucking point? There are things more important than the wins and losses you idiot. Things like sticking up for his athletes when hacks like you think your opinion is the story. The Coach gets it. Apparently you're too dense to see it, or you didn't "get the memo", douchebag...

This media circle jerk has gotten me more fired up than I can remember. Fucking unreal...:shake:

Wow, sportwriters have no shame. Jenni Carlson basically wrote a column that should have been headlined "Reid is a Momma's Boy" and somehow the media types believe that's appropriate. Just WOW!

I do wish Gundy would have handled the situation a little more appropriately, but it's hard to fault him for letting his emotions get the best of him when one of his players was so clearly personally attacked.

Did he mom really hand feed him or not? That's what's important here.

Hard to know. The asserted facts of the story are sketchy at best. But I'm sure Carlson would have reported it as fact if there was some unsubstantiated innuendo and rumor that his mom made him wear a bib and breast-fed him.

Not to mention she tried to bring up the spat in public again, asking him what was wrong in the article so she could print a retraction?

Funny, I don't remember seeing a retraction for the two things he directly addressed as false in his tirade.

Mike Gundy's final line was so fitting, this hypocrisy makes me want to puke.

Saw the video for the first time, honestly I don't understand the support this woman is getting. If these jounralists and sports writers were unbiased as they should be, they would take a step back and see both sides here...and I think in their right minds they would side with the coach. Of course, the media is not unbiased, so they're painting Gundy as the bad guy here. You can't fault the kid for doing everything right.
According to his coach, he doesn't get into trouble, he goes to his classes, and he pours his heart out onto the field. Every player and even a team has their slumps, to make a personal attack on the player is just wrong. Hes not playing for any money here, hes playing for the love of the game and for the fans. This hack journalism is ridiculous, they'll say just about anything to create some controversy and get their names out there. I thought the point of the media was to present the facts to the public? Somehow we lost that a long time ago.

ESPN - Wojciechowski: A spat with no winner - Columnist

Gene Wojciechowski gets it right. Or at least, closer to right than any of his colleagues so far.

Something is at work here. The mistake is to think Gundy's supporters are simply Oklahoma State yahoos blinded by orange and black loyalty. But the e-mails and support also come from University of Oklahoma alums and fans, which, if you know anything about the intensity of that rivalry, just doesn't happen by accident.

Gundy not only struck a nerve, but he inadvertently tapped into the public's (and coaches') frustration and exasperation with the media. Not only did these people agree with what Gundy did, but they overwhelmingly agreed with how and why he did it.
Probably the first writer covering this that doesn't sanctimoniously act like it's obvious Coach Gundy was wrong and Carlson was a victim.
