Mike Gundy (HC Oklahoma St. Cowboys)

Don't know these players or if he was indeed drunk, but I like the press taking a bit of heat. Of course, he will pay for this in the end. A battle with the press can't be won at the local level, ask Woody. As good as he was the Citizen Journal and Columbus Dispatch constantly ragged him. I wouldn't say he lost, but he didn't win until far later when he dotted that i.

awesome. Especially like the (I assume) media people clapping as he left.
My guess is that the applause came from all the reporters in attendance that are not employed by the Daily Oklahoman.

FWIW, the Oklahoman is owned by the Gaylord family, who just happen to be the biggest donors to the OU football program. Their name is on the football stadium and OU's journalism school. Hell, even the colors of newsok.com are Crimson and Cream!

There is no love lost between Cowboy fans and The Oklahoman. Mike Gundy, a former OSU quarterback himself, probably knows this as well as anyone.

It's also worth noting that Columbia Journalism Review awarded The Oklahoman the title of "The Worst Newspaper in America" in 1999.

Dennis Dodd comes out to protect Jenni's rear end.

Mike Gundy needs to be reprimanded, definitely suspended, probably fined and maybe fired.
If you missed the Oklahoma State coach's outburst Saturday, you missed the mother of all meltdowns. At least the mother of all meltdowns over something as common as a columnist's opinion.
Coaches usually reserve their tirades for more important things like fumbles, arrests or their own marital problems. Even then, most coaches have the decency to do their yelling behind closed doors.
Okie State's third-year coach verbally attacked a woman, a journalist and degraded his profession after Saturday's win over Texas Tech. Jenni Carlson, a columnist for the Daily Oklahoman, wrote a fair and balanced column Saturday regarding quarterback Bobby Reid. Typical of his coaching style, Gundy had replaced Reid as starter before the Sept. 13 game against Troy without explanation. As is her job in that situation, Carlson tried to explain why Reid lost his job in her column.

Yeah, I'm sure. As long as "fair and balanced" doesn't require "facts".

Good for you, Gundy.

I think its dispicable that journalists judge and attack amatuer athletes. I don't give a shit if its an "opinion" piece - these players aren't getting paid to play, and in the grand scheme of things, whatever they do on the football field won't (and shouldn't) have any serious effect on our lives whatsoever. It's a fucking game, for crying out load, and most of these guys are playing for the love of that game.

What Gundy did took balls and I'm glad he called out that sports writer. He might have gone a little overboard considering Jenni Carlson's article wasn't that harsh on Reid, but Gundy made his point and is obviously very passionate about protecting his players.

Fuck Dodd. He's probably the biggest contributor to this problem. Ripping on 18-22 year old kids - wow you're a big man now, aren't you?

Agreed, but we're not paid for our rants.

Out of line, imo:

There's something to be said for not being a malcontent, but you can almost see Reid shrugging his shoulders as he says those words. Does he have the fire in his belly?

Or does he want to be coddled, babied, perhaps even fed chicken?
