Agree with the former half. The latter half doesn't apply. Gene didn't do the hiring. Wexner, Schottenstein and Gee personally handled UM's hiring and contract.

I'm gonna love when UM has Brax hang a century mark on both these teams combined this coming season...

a couple questions...........

1. do the coaches vote for B1G COY ?

2. if so, then didn't they basically say screw you, Tressel ? He never won COY.

3. If that is true, then isn't this poetic justice to see the B1G coaches that screwed gentleman Jim over now cry that he's gone ?

"There's a need to correct some inaccurate news accounts that have appeared over the last two days," Dantonio said. "Let me be clear: Some general recruiting statements I made were completely taken out of context when combined together by a reporter not in attendance. The timing of my comments was a reflection of an occurring matter on signing day and had nothing to do with Urban Meyer and Ohio State. My comments regarding "unethical" behavior were general in nature, according to my current coaching philosophy, and not directed toward any particular institution."
I hope D'Antonio has eyes in the back of his head backpedaling this fast...

The only thing would be if, as he said in the statement, someone else put the quotes around two unrelated remarks & made them sound like something else.

taken out of context when combined together by a reporter not in attendance.

There must be more than one reporter who wrote about Dantonio's statement--someone who was actually present for it. I'd really like to know ir he said it or not. Makes a big difference on bye weeks next season & such, when I'm casting about for some stray team to root for or against.

If this is what he said then its pretty hard to believe he wasn't talking about Ohio State keep backpedaling douche

If Dantonio is being truthful, it sounds like the reporter put those two sentences together when they should not have been.. I have a hard time believing a reporter would do that without expecting backlash. But I guess that could've been the goal. Wouldn't surprise me at this point, media is getting out of control.

I have high regard for Mark Dantonio, and hope that these were two separate unrelated comments purposely strung together by a reporter.

I also have a high regard for him. He was absolutely an essential component of the National Championship run, and his defensive plan against Miami was a thing of beauty. Brian Kelly owes him a debt of gratitude for his success at Cincinnati, and he has done a great job at Sparty. I'd like to think that this was just said out of frustration, which I completely understand.
