HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

It's a fine line. At this point, you have what you have and use that for constructing a game plan. It's not an excuse for losing to TTUN, but it's still significant, especially for the playoffs. JSN He can't be replaced, but his absence has

I guess my thought is, we can criticize elements of the game plan, but the loss of JSN, and to a lesser extent, Henderson are major factors in what this offense can and can't do against the best teams in the country. Especially when many of the issues we keep talking about are fixed with a healthy JSN. I imagine that Day would have installed different concepts in the spring and fall had he known he'd be without him.

I'm not giving up on them winning a rematch. The team didn't play with their backs against the wall, they played like they were trying to make a statement, win the CCG, and get ready for the playoffs. I think you see a different mentality when the only thing that matters is getting a win.
They’ve had the wrong mentality for two years. Day was focused all last year on beating Alabama. This year he claimed the focus was on Michigan ..the first half went ok. Did he switch to playoff mode at halftime..and again played not to lose. I’m not sure Day and Knowles had a complimentary game plan.

I wouldn't want either of them at OSU but I don't think the results would be any worse if either of them had been put in the same position as Day. Who knows? It's completely subjective.
But they were both stood up on 3rd base too! Bert took over from Alvarez and Riley took over from Stoops! Both left those programs worse off then they were when they came on. They were just lucky enough to transition out on their own terms before they turned into real shit shows.

Dude that's nonsensical. Bert is a dumptruck full of shit coach.

They can both be bad coaches and still not be any worse than Day. The two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Coach Day is CJ the leader you say he is? I can’t see it You won’t let him .I’d prefer tempo where he is directing the formation ..or try the opposite so on 3rd and 1 huddle up.He can remind his back and OL we need 1 yard. Maybe jump his OL about false starts or TE getting their blocks. Let him lead …

Just sitting here on an ugly day, most of my time spent on grading final projects from my students, and thinking that Hairball has taken Michigan back to Bo and Day has taken the Buckeye's to Pete Carroll. Bo's teams were built to beat Ohio State through the ground game, ball control and defense. Pete's teams were built by gathering more talent than anybody else and winning with passing, speed, and rolling up the score.

The problem in this scenario is that you have to get past a Bo team to get to the CFPs. In that sense, I think the Buckeye's have a better shot at winning the CFP than Michigan even though Georgia is a much better team than TCU.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on Day. I personally think he's about what those numbers say he is. Others think he's elite.

I'm ready to make that call right now after 4 years and save, what I feel to be, the inevitable damage that will come by waiting another 2-3 years. There would be risk to it and new hires are not guaranteed to work out but I think the risk of doing nothing is worse.

Another problem in this scenario is Georgia is a better version of TTUN.

If you are ready to move on from Day right now, you are nuts.

If he shits the bed again, I may be nuts right there with you.

To be clear, I mean at the end of the season and I'm assuming the probable outcome being less than a NC.

If he can win this thing then maybe it isn't as bad as I fear it is but he hasn't left himself any margin for error of anything short of that imo.

Not a feather in his cap to say the least.

Or this could just be interpreted as: Smart gets more out of his talent than Day does.

Or, and it's maybe saying the same thing, that Smart does better because he gets better / more talent.

Or, that the SEC isn't as competitive, overall, than the B1G, so the "elite" programs (like Georgia) have a much easier time.

I'm not entirely sure that Day doesn't pack it in if the outcome is anything less than a NC.

It seems to me that he's spending more time yammering and whining about NIL in interviews this post-season, than he is talking about team prep and morale and how well the team is responding to the challenge coming up in the Peach Bowl.

What did he call it, after the Iowa or NW game when he was making excuses about players missing their assignments? He said it's "loser talk", but went ahead and did it anyway, right? I kind of winced at that. And I haven't stopped wincing since. That's not "tough talk". That's an east coast kid who got his ass handed to him in a game of street hockey who can't get over it and who needs to find the next excuse to hide behind.

It's not hard to just say, "Yep... a lot of stuff swirling around about NIL or whatever and it can get distracting for the staff and the players. But we have the whole off-season to think about that and Gene and his team are on top of it. So, right now the only thing I'm thinking about is how to beat Georgia and how to maintain the necessary intensity during our bowl prep. Thanks... I need to get back to practice."
