Day lacks that kind of record. The comp that I am most scared of is Larry Coker, who by the way, proved that an inept head coach could indeed take over a program with enough talent to keep it running...until it didn't. The cracks started to show against teams that could punch back and then the wheels fell off. Day isn't that bad but that's what I fear. A total collapse into 9-3 land.

I see what you mean, and it's certainly harder to justify losses without a larger, positive track record. Until he beats TTUN again there's significant reasons to be concerned, but I think it's too early to throw in the towel. Thankfully the playoffs will help clarify the picture even more.

As much as I’m worried about Day becoming Coop, I think I’m even more concerned about Day becoming Earle.

Earle got the keys to the Ferrari from Woody and had a good early period. Then he fell to a consistent 9-3 season. Finally, in 87 he went 6-4-1 which, albeit with a victory over Michigan was enough to send him packing. that team by the way had a a solid class headed by Spielman, Kumerow, Tupa, Workman, Olive, White, Staysniak, and Uhlenake (spelling might be off on names). It took Coop awhile to bring them back.

I’m with you. Lots of parallels. Earle had some of the finest individual players in program history but started the 3 loss a year stuff in his second year.

Keeping it in perspective though, he ended with a winning record against tsun. Bo Schembechler coached tsun. Earl absolutely got it.

Day? He had freshmen making tick tick videos of wiping their cleats on a tsun tshirt, moves senior tackle…various other weak shit talking episodes. Results speak for themselves.
