HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I mean…this could be blasphemy but do Ohio kids get the Michigan hate still? Bucks are coming off 15 out of 16 wins in the formative years for most kids that are on campus or will be on campus (2004-2019). Most of them versus very down Michigan teams. Trying to think of 16-20 year olds. Different world.

Unfortunately the human nature side of things kicked in and this was taken for granted. Michigan was just another laughingstock at the end of the year. They don’t know the pain.

I’m not ever ever the one to wish the Rivalry was “more competitive”…15-1 still wasn’t good enough for me. But the perception of who/what Michigan is to Ohio State clearly got imbalanced. It may take 2 painful years of correction to right the ship.

Just thinking out loud. My problem remains it should have only taken 1 year to correct it. This version of The Game - at home with a supposedly “all-world offense” and plenty of chances, should have found a way to win, maybe even by 2+ scores. Instead of the opposite happened.
What was disconcerting was the coaches were fooled into it’s over ..I’m not sure Day believes scUM is back much less better yet. That’s not good for 2023.

OL can be made from 3 star and 4 star guys..Orlando Pace is a one a decade player. Recruit an abundance of OL and develop them. 23 year old 3 stars have an advantage over 19-20 year old 5 stars.
I thought that this was a huge part of the issue and why Frye is here. To many swings and misses and being left with projects. Now folks are up in arms about an Ohio kid who they thought was passed over and not treated right.

Man my head hurts with all this Oline stuff.

I guess the question is who is out there of a caliber big enough to trust OSU with? I think OSU isn't going to give Day much more rope, which is bad for him, because as far as the QB and Oline is concerned, it is kind of a rebuild year.
I think we’ve seen Day’s limitations even with stacked lineups from ‘19-‘22. Now we’re going to see him with big question marks on the OL, in the secondary and to a lesser degree along the DL (something isn’t right there) all while breaking in a new QB.

Next year the wheels come off a little more with games at Notre Dame and at tsun imo. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 3 loss year.

As far as who else you get, I have no idea. History tells me to look for a guy with Ohio roots and a solid amount of winning HC experience (specifically in rivalry games).

Frankly TTUN aren't back, he just isn't coaching at an appropriate level.

Take TTUN out of the equation, and throughout the season he seemed like he was a little clueless. I am still not sure he gets it.

If he loses next year there is a decent chance he isn't making it to 2024, regardless of Raiola.

OSU isn't going to give as much rope as they gave Cooper after the success of Tressel and Meyer. It isn't happening.

There is a sense of urgency that he has to get, because the athletic administration will throw him under the bus for their own self preservation. That's life.

“Questions on the DL”

We have JT, Sawyer, Hall, possibly Tyliek coming back.

Tommy 2-thumbs and Chambers at LB.

Throw Styles in the mix with Ky Stokes with Ransom, Hancock, Burke, Brown, Johnson.

Maybe the best returning WR core in the sport.
A handpicked highly rated QB with 2 years in the program.
The entire backfield.

questions at OT that hopefully are addressed in the portal.

We will be ranked top 5 pre-season.

You need to pump the brakes my friend.

So 11-1 or 10-2 No conference title no CFP. CFP expansion can’t get here soon enough for Day.

Don't get me wrong, the tools are there if he chooses to use them. It won't be hard to right the ship.

They have most of their D back, and the babies waiting around will get their chance. Hopefully they can get some DB answers. They have solid safety options.

We really don't know what we have in McCord or Brown. Stroud put up great stats, but the substance behind it was lacking throughout his career.

We have Harrison back. What year is Egbuka? We have stud WR's coming in who can make a impact.

There will he Pryor and Hayden back, maybe even Henderson.

We probably need hole filler in the Oline, but the skeleton is there.

All is definitely not lost, and in fact I would say we are still in better shape compared to TTUN, even with the return of McCarthy and Edwards. They have alot of holes to fill as well.

ND will be super difficult on the road next year, because they will be better.

I can't think of one candidate who fits that profile who can run a complex program, and who is not named Meyer.

Only JT plays up to his ranking and the DL gets awfully quite for awfully long periods of time these past few years.

Listing all their names doesn't mean they'll play better. Did you watch what just happened?

Maybe the best returning WR in the sport.
Had the same this year. Didn't mean shit in the end.

A handpicked highly rated QB with 2 years in the program.
Had a hand picked, highly ranked returning starter this year. How'd Day do with that?

The entire backfield.
You mean just like in '22?

questions at OT that hopefully are addressed in the portal.

Hope is not a plan.

Probably will be but pre season rankings mean dick.

You need to pump the brakes my friend.
I’d say the same to you. That is some Tha Kid level sunshine you are pumping.

There isn’t one, including Meyer! Day ain’t going anywhere. Any better HC already is employed. It’s funny how bad ND looked most of the year, and now they’re going to be better than OSU next year :slappy:
I swear fans get loopy after losses and common sense gets thrown out of the window in favor of doom and gloom

Fickell is obviously the first name on the list. If he says no, I can see a call being made to Bob Stoops.

If both of those guys are out, I’d call Kyle Whittingham. Obviously he’s not an Ohio guy but if you’re looking for someone who can run a program, he’s not a bad look.
