HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I've said many times they won't fire him this year.

I have said they need to start recognizing he isn't the guy and not let it go one for another 9-13 years like they did with Earl and Cooper because yes, there is legitimate concern that slide is coming.
Fair enough.
We shall see.
Your opinion has merit.
I’m on record as not wanting him hired when the did.
But he has built enough equity to continue for a couple years.
If the trend is downward then and we have identified a viable candidate then go for it.
Maybe Luke, Vrabel, hell Marcus Freeman would make it a no brainer.
I agree wholeheartedly we don’t want a cooper like slog.

How many issues did Day correct last off season? This one is going to be different because...?
He corrected the OL, replacing the entire defense. DBs were hit hard by the injury bug, nothing he could do about that. LBs looked worlds better this year. The TE was utilized for the first time, I believe ever. The best WR in the country was replaced by another WR who became the bet WR in the country.

That’s a bigger correction in one year than most of our past coaches have done in one season

If Day is willing to give up play calling, this team is fine. Being a HC in the current climate, is different than in the past. Play calling AND being a HC is incredibly difficult now. Day should delegate more, imo. These are growing pains lumps that a 1st time HC has to deal with. This program is still in good hands, imo. But the play calling has been predictable and stagnant for weeks. And Dayas gotten stubborn like Meyer became. He needs to correct that

Dumb question but what would giving up play-calling free him up to do? Better clock management, chance to get his D. Cor. On the headset to scream at?

Imo, Day, and Urban before him became stubborn and tended to rely on predictable plays and started to call tight game plans when the game wasn’t going their way. Day relies on the WR screen, or RB stretch outside, Meyer relied on QB run to either side. A new play caller would be able to call a gameplan and get a better feel for the game that the HC doesn’t always have. Day will get the veto power, but calling every play is hard as heck. Urbans best years on offense were when Herman was calling plays and when Day came aboard after the Warriner debacle(when Urban was calling plays due to lack of trust in ‘15 and ‘16).
Day was actually a very good play caller when he was solely the OC. And the talent he had with Haskins and Dobbins was similar to Stroud and Henderson/Williams.

I never understood how a play-caller can do it from field level.

He didn't get the offer. There may be more to the story. As somebody said earlier, he was probably going to be a summer camp offer if their targets fell through.

If he was that good they would probably have offered him.

I can understand not offering some of the lower star players in Ohio, but if it's an Olineman in Ohio, OSU better offer. As far as OL development is concerned, TTUN is doing a stellar job. So they should do the Woody thing there and just offer.

I hate the idea of slow playing our in-state talent for late offer potential. I very much understand it - I still dislike it, like you said especially when it comes to lineman.

I think Luke is 100% worthy of an offer, no doubt about it....he has a nasty streak, finishes blocks incredibly well, and for his size and movement he's incredibly promising. I think OSU thought much the same, felt and likely still feel they can flip potentially down the road. That's a dangerous game to play imo.

I give up.

Are you actually calling for Day to fired in the next week or are trying to we have no hope in the future, we will begin to slide and eventually he will get shit canned without another B1G title.

If it’s the former good luck getting a top flight pool of candidates who would be willing to take a job where you win 90% of your games, win 2 B1G titles, make the CFP 2 (maybe 3 times, lose to Michigan twice and get shit canned.

That’s a big deal. Ultimately, like it or not, it’s going to be very difficult to part ways with Day. For cause? I’m not sure that I see that happening. For convenience? You risk the issues outlined above.

I think @Jaxbuck hit the nail on the head earlier. The only way he leaves any time soon is for an NFL gig.

For the record, I have a lot of mixed feelings in all directions. I’m not picking a ride or die side at this point. The disappointment of the weekend is still too fresh. What I am sure of, however, is being sick and tired of well-meaning people asking me how I’m doing. I just need to have an “I’m still pissed, don’t ask” hat or something.

Coordinators calling plays from the booth. Period. Position coaches and HC on the sidelines managing personnel. That's the winning formula. You can't manage every single thing by yourself you have to delegate authority and once in a while yell on the headset, "stop running plays horizontally" or "why the fuck are they running wide open?!?!"

So would you say things are better now since Day took over? Or worse?

Great question.....yes?

I think about the same....there have been improvements, step backs, and then consistencies like lack of discipline/penalties.

The biggest difference between Urban and Day isn't anything about them personally as it is Harbaugh dialing himself back and finding consistent QB play. As much as we love Urb for his on-field results, I'm not sure he pulls out wins against ttun last year and this year....this year I'd say yes, last year I'd have said he likely loses as well.

Joel Klatt: Good listen if you have time.

It's taken two days to process and collect my thoughts on "The Game" watching it unfold from the 35 yard line in A deck Saturday afternoon. But I've seen enough of the comments and personal attacks on the coaches and players on this board in the last 2 days to make myself sit back and pause before spewing nonsense.

Take a moment to step away from the ledge, take a deep breath.... it still hurts. I get it, still sick to my stomach myself. But calling for Day's job? Really? 45-5?

I heard and have read Buckeye fans questioning C.J.'s commitment to the program and how his spiritual beliefs have interfered with his toughness and performance. Really? We're going there? Have some perspective. We need more kids like C.J. in this program. It isn't their job to change their personalities to fit our likes or dislikes. Would you rather root for a bunch of law-breaking thugs?

Nobody had anything negative to say about Knowles' scheme and the progress we have seen since last season until the world was falling after Saturday's defeat. *ichigan played well enough and executed better to exploit OSU's weaknesses. Give Knowles time to figure it out. Knowles committed more resources to shut down the run bc it gave us the best chance to win.... and was successful for the most part in the 1st half. When you do that you leave yourself suseptible to 1 on 1 matchups on the outside and are 1 missed tackle away from an explosive. In these casees they all went for TD's. The players didn't execute in the back end on the biggest plays of the game.....simple as that. It turned the game. I think the other things, including the struggles at times on offense could have been overcome.

Comments about JSN packing it in bc he was unable to return from injury? Really? He attempted to come back twice unsuccessfully. It isn't you rehabbing and putting in the work in an attempt to come back or Eich's thumbs, Henderson's foot, Miyan's knee or any other injuries guys are fighting through for that matter...... it's the 20 year old young men playing through injuries so you and I can sit on our couches and be entertained. They aren't robots. They make mistakes. Come on now, what are we doing here?

These kids poured their hearts out on Saturday. The coaches and players put a lot into this one and they came up short and their hearts hurt like ours. I still feel like we have the better team and the program is in a good place with Day. Need to make the necessary adjustments and changes now to beat *ichigan. They played and coached tight down the stretch and got beat by a good team. To question their heart and their desire to win the game is unfair to the players and staff.

Long story short, and back to Coach Day...... I'm as angry and disappointed as the next Buckeye fan, but questioning if Day gets the Rivalry, or questioning C.J.'s heart bc he won't pull it and run is unwarranted. Be thankful for what he has done for the program the last 2 years and that we have an 11-1 football team to root for w/o tearing down the players. Come on Buckeye Nation, we're better than that.

It's still great to be a Buckeye!!!!
