HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I agree with all the above posts especially with defensive recruiting and development issues. I don't want to say that he"inherited" things as much as everyone is trying to because he was already here under Meyer so he did have some responsibility building that juggernaut and by all accounts has continued or even bested, the recruiting overall talent.

He and Urban are very similar with the only big difference that loss up north. Urbs struggled with Sparty. Both had issues with assistant coaches. Day should have been in 2 Championship games by now, got cheated on the first one vs Clemson, and he's gotten us over the Clemson curse. Meyer never lost to ttun and won a Natty and that's instant legend status in Columbus. If Knowles gets us closer to where Hafley was, Day will end up legendary status as well. Time will tell.

We are absolutely better off now than with Meyer. We are, largely because of Day, bringing in players we wouldn’t have gotten previously and in greater numbers. Players of the caliber we need to compete with Alabama, et al. Bringing in Knowles was the right move at the right time. He was blindsided when Haffley left and had to scramble to put something together. It looked like bringing Coombs back was a, if not the, right answer at the time. If he’d fired Coombs early in the season, he would’ve had to deal with all kinds of drama. Talk about being born on third base. Our fan base can be a little delusional. Day is the right guy for this era. Urban was fast becoming a dinosaur and the best thing he did before leaving was bringing Day on board.

We took some asskickings under Urban, too; every year but one. I'm not down on the UM era. I'm simply saying that it, as we enjoyed it, would've been over whether he'd left or not and that Day has upped our game. Yes, we dropped one to scum. No one likes that, least of all Day, I'd imagine. I trust him to sort it out. Hiring Knowles almost immediately after the regular season ended goes a long way toward that for me.

We are a ridiculously spoiled fanbase. Any loss is a cataclysmic event for many. The idea that we were going to beat scUM every single year is a delusional one. Eventually, they were gonna catch one...and eventually they will win another one. There is not one team that beats their primary rival every time. Bammer has lost to Auburn. OU has lost to Texas. The level of domination we have shown over ttun the past two decades is remarkable, yet one loss in a DECADE has many on the ledge. It's insanity.

Dominating UM era? How'd that work against Purdue, Iowa, Clemson and MSU??? Those teams all embarrassed us and cost us 2 possible NCs due to Meyer's stubbornness, whether with relying on QB runs on keeping his buddies on staff when they were killing our defense. Let's not act like everything Urban did was perfect, he had some MASSIVE issues that also cost us big. Day has had 2 embarrassing losses in 3yrs(1 in an NC), while Meyer had 3 soul crushing regular season defeats. As bad as this last scUM game was, it will be hard to wash the stink off from that 2015 MSU loss, when we were heavily favored all year, and wouldn't the damn ball to the best RB in the country!

You forgot to add, "In conditions where the wind was actually driving the rain sideways, and every fan in the stands was screaming for them to run the ball."

For the Day defenders what is the breaking point for you? I think he has some problems to overcome. I’ll be ready to move on if he loses to scUM and it’s his second loss and we are off to a bowl where we wonder if he can motivate his team again.

Who is the savior at that point if you’re ready to move on? Fickell? If i remember correctly Fickell wasn’t exactly lighting up the world his first few years as a HC ….

God no Fickell. So we stick with Day forever no matter his record? Cooper again. I guess that Clemson win is equal to a Natty and 10 wins over scUM. I’d would gladly give up that Clemson win if it meant beating Michigan this year.
