HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Ryan Day's agent denies report linking him and the Ohio State football coach to Chicago Bears

The agent for Ryan Day denied a report claiming that he and the Ohio State coach could be part of a package deal to join the Chicago Bears.

According to CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora, the Bears have had discussions with Trace Armstrong to join the team in a front-office role, with Day listed as a possibility to accompany him as coach. Armstrong was a defensive end for the Bears from 1989-94.

“I have the utmost respect for the Chicago Bears organization, the McCaskey family and Ted Phillips,” Armstrong said in a tweet Sunday. “However, any assertion that I have engaged in conversations with them about joining the club in any capacity is simply not true.”

Some of the hand-wringing over issues this season and Ricks committing to Bama seems to be driving a lot of fans over the edge (99% on 11W or other forums), and it's driving me to rant.

Day has a lot to prove, and admittedly this year's team was too finesse, but the talk about Day being weak, soft, a 'beta' or whatever weird language people are using is bordering on psychotic. Mostly because fans are mad that a 43 year old first time HC isn't the same as the 70 yr old GOAT at the peak of his powers. Isn't going to happen. Maybe Day won't work out here, and even if that's the case OSU won't burn down. But he is trying to build his own version of a program and it takes time to get up and going. Hopefully it will soon, because even though he'll never have the resume of Saban, I think he's still capable of stepping on TTUN's throat and winning NCs.

Dabo was able to get his foot in the door using flawed rosters with great players and luck. No reason Day can't either, even if he's not a qualified chemist.

Yeah, and people thought no one could even win six national titles as a head coach again. Saban's now won seven, and may/probably will win his eight next month...he'll probably have ten by the time he retires. But, he didn't win his first national title until he was over 50, so it's possible that Day could win as many as Saban will have won by the time Day hits 70. Now, it's true that Day likely won't coach until 70 and/or win 8-10 national titles. But don't say never...

2021 is the season that will transform Day into a better coach. He really did fall on 3rd base, and let his guard down the last two seasons.

I think taking it on the chin is good for most competitors.

We will see what happens, but I think this was needed for him to grow.
