HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Relax Jax.

It’s boys playing a game.

Yeah, they looked like boys playing a game against men.

The two guys before Day never had players talk about tsun (or it was so rare it's hard to recall it). They combined to go 16-1 in The Game and won 2 NC's.

Current guy appears to have a Cooper like approach to letting his guys run their mouth about tsun and is 1-1 in The Game.

On Ryan Day....his team has a serious problem with keeping their fucking mouths shut.

This is a problem in my mind and a direct contributor to the ass kicking they took last month.

It's not much imo. Munford said the most, Chambers took responsibility, and Sawyer said a little. If it's stuff that starts a week or two before the game next year, I'll be more annoyed. Otherwise there's no bulletin board material here that lives past January.

Hopefully.

It just amazes me they will say anything beyond "no comment" less than a month removed from being emasculated.

Maybe you or I would, but they're pretty young with reporters trying to get sound bites out of them. Imo it's mostly Day's responsibility to say no comment and move on.

That's my point though. I think a head coach could get the word out that there is a zero tolerance policy for anything beyond "no comment". The last two did.

Ryan Day inherited a Lamborghini. Was he born on third base and thought he hit a triple? I don't know, but "hang 100" didn't exactly pan out.

NOW is when he proves himself. Lost to TTUN, no BIGCG....time to rebound.

Some of you seem sold on him. Given this is his first HC job, I'm not (yet). 2022 is his proving ground for me. I hope he proves it.

I’m with you on this. He’s still a very young and green Head coach. This is the year we find out how good he wants to be or if he’s headed to the nfl.
I’m looking for the staff moves that are made after the bowl game, does he shuffle assignments or does he find someone and bring them in.
How does he finish the 22 class?

then let’s see what happens in games 1,4, and 5 next year.

I hope he wants to be great but fear he doesn’t have that instinct yet, granted he had 1 normal season out of 3. Maybe 1.5.

Absolutely agree. He's the best OC we've ever had at OSU. That much, he has proven. He has a lot of work to do on the rest. Only has to win the next 8 editions of The Game to match Jim Tressel. He's never going to match Urban in that regard.

I've feared he's more like Earl than Cooper though. Earl inherited Woody talent, was a breath of fresh air to them and came up just shy of a NC in his first year. Seemed pretty capable for a while but by the end he was seriously lacking in talent along the LOS and OSU was getting mauled by teams that should never be able to maul them (Indiana). It isn't exact of course but that's my fear after watching what happened in The Game this year and Oregon before that.

I hope he finds the right guy to run the defensive side of the house to include an improvement in the development of defensive recruits because, as much as we've focused on the terrible coaching of the defense these past few years, we're seeing an alarming number of highly recruited guys be mediocre or worse. It's 3 straight classes between '18 and '20.
