Assistant to the Head Coach
He fits the mold of coach the NFL is looking for. Young, excellent leader of men/motivator, offensive mind, QB guru. Has an NFL background and no ties to OSU before he started here.
I wouldn’t have been surprised at all if he would have accepted the blank check from Chicago that I assume they would/will offer him. But I agree that he’s here for a few years (hopefully many more than that) with the hiring of this DC. Feels like he’s in it to win it.

He might stay for the same reason Urban remained a college coach until this year. It's a lot more fun for your bad years to be 10 and 3 in college as opposed tp 3-13 in the NFL.

Not exactly, CFB fans are even more rabid than NFL fans when their team loses, especially if you're at a blue blood. Fans can stomach years of 5+ loss seasons, in CFB if you're at OSU, Bama, OU, LSU, UGA, etc, you're getting canned and dragged through social media if you lose more than 2 games. After a 2 loss season where Ryan Day had his first B1G loss, there was a segment of the fan base who wanted Day fired. No way in hell does 2 losses make fans so irate in the NFL.
It comes down to Urban was simply a CFB coach. And Day maybe as well, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I kinda have a tough time seeing Day hire a guy away from a program that wanted him even for nearly $2M and then Day leaving for the NFL outside of some Godfather type offer…

What would make Day move? I don’t know $$, more Bucks in the portal, his favorites in the portal, another loss to scUm , a 3 or 4 loss season.

I would think after enough success to show that he's as good or better than Urban was and someone (Hartline!?) is ready to take over. Could be three years, could be five. I don't think he's put off by the portal. From what we've seen so far, he realizes that it's not going anywhere and tOSU is positioned to be selective and benefit from it more than it loses.

The biggest difference is you don't have the recruiting grind and drama in the NFL. That shit had to get old real fast, especially with this NIL disaster going on.

In the NFL you just have the draft, free agency, a salary cap, and other people deciding who is going to be on your team. I don’t really think one is substantially superior to the other.
Between Meyer and Kelly (and his own experience), no one is in a position to make a more informed decision about making the jump to the NFL if he does decide to do it.
