Game thread: USC 34, Notre Dame 31 (Final)

How can anyone side with ND?

Did none of you take note of the rather lengthy grass that seemed to be neglected by the grounds crew?

How could anyone possibly feel sorry for an ND loss after seeing the Jungle they had growing between the goal lines. This is the exact same shit MSU and the like would pull against Woody Hayes, to try and slow down Archie Griffin and the other great OSU backs of that era. Notre Dame's blatant decision to throw away any consideration for potential injury, and NFL futures, for a desperate attempt to slow down USC's athletes is utterly classless, and further demonstrates the hypocrisy that Notre Dame football has become.

It makes me sick to think that Notre Dame stands 9th in the polls, considers themselves among the top 4 teams in the country, and lends the media, fans, and general public alike that they are the epitome of college football programs. If they had half the sportsmanship as they did arrogance, this grass would've been cut and subsequently a non issue. Maybe when Notre Dame leaves it up to their recruiting coordinators, and not their grounds crew to level the playing field will they find more success on the football field, until then i hope they have annual reservations for the Motor City Bowl.

yes thank you.

Educated guess here...

lower tier teams: a sporadic occurance, i would only expect this to occur for big games such as rivarlies or highly ranked opponents coming into town.

upper tier teams: seldom ever. thats why it baffles me that ND's field was in a condition such as that.

The grass on that field was longer than the grass i would typically see on my practice field in my High School football days.

Wells- You might want to get a clue .....

FIRST - Tall grass has been going on for years and all schools have done it at one time or another.

SECOND- ND fans do not think we are a top 4 team, heck we are just glad to be rated after the last 10 years.

I didnt realize you were such an expert on ND!! Or are you just afraid that ND may indeed be back?

There were several injuries in the game for which I think the tall grass was a factor. USC probably lost Desmond Reed for the season. He was the guy who fell trying to field a kickoff.

Nd had a bunch of guys go down, too.

Yeah it has, thats why i cited MSU doing it to Ohio State, specifically they did it in 1974. My point being schools that are seen, or consider themselves as top tier programs arent exactly the ones known to do it. For a school that takes such pride in itself, and its accomplishments on the football field it disgusts me to think that ND would stoop to this level. Would you consider your self proud that they did this? Did Charlie Weiss bother to do anything about the grass?

Woody Hayes never had it done, Earl Bruce played on turf, and to my knowledge i cant remember a Cooper or Tressel game that had grass as long as that seen on saturday.

Finally i do realize that ND's players had to play on the same field, which i hope they would've came to that same logical deduction before their own players started to go down with knee injuries. Maybe putting their cheerleaders on a diet for 2 weeks was more important the knees of the Irish linemen, regardless its just another fine example of how classless it is, putting both the Irish, and USC team at risk of injury.

Expert on ND specifically? No i never claimed to be, but i know my fair share of Notre Dame fans, i grew up 45 minutes from South Bend so i have interacted with many of thier fans and would say have a good general consensus of what they are like.

I dont mind the Irish having good teams, what i do mind is their fans, which by and far in my experience are the worst ever. Most fans probably are glad that ND is rated, but more importantly can resume talking about their team with unparalleled arrogance.

Funny thing is that I have never ever heard of a fan that didnt like talking about his/ her team when they were good!

So how long has it been since you lived around here? The last 10 years have seriously dampended the so called cocky attitude.

About the grass, how long was it? How long should it have been? Are you a turf expert? Maybe ND should call you before this weeks game to see if you appprove of the height of it's grass.

Face it , your just pissed that ND may be good. BTW, Why dont you bring up the fact that Bush pushed his QB in the end zone?

The thing is, if the Pac-10 refs had called the illegal push with 3 seconds to go, USC would have been able to kick the tying FG. Then it would have been a hell of an overtime.

OF course, if it went OT, Leinart probably would have padded his stats with some TD passes, helping his Heisman campaign. So it's good that didn't happen. I like to look for the positive aspects of things.
