ESPN College Gameday (official thread)

If Kirk Herbstreit posted his on-air comments on Buckeye Planet under an unknown username, he'd be banned. Just consider that for a second. Also consider the grief that Jim Harbaugh got from Michigan people for saying things that were far more mild, directed coaches and administrators (ie. paid, professional adults), and which were true. I'd call KH our Harbaugh, but Harbaugh was both a better player, more loyal to his university, and knows something about football. Harbaugh also had his alma mater's best interests at heart, where as Herbstreit is simply trying to advance himself by trashing his.

One of my favorite stories about the Kirkster comes from a friend of mine who knew him in college. He used to tell her that she's never make it as an attorney, and she told him that he'd never make it in the NFL. A few years ago, they ran into each other at a Jackets game, and by this time she was a partner in a good sized firm. He saw her and said, "I hear that you're a lawyer now". She replied, "Yeah, and I hear you're not in the NFL."

What is the difference in what Herbstriet says and what some of you say every time the Bucks play poorly? NOTHING!!! You guys ever thought that maybe he is frustrated too? Go back and read some of your posts after that Purdue game, Or how bout the USC game last year. I'm guilty of it too. I've said "bench Pryor, fire Bollman, this O-Line sucks." I totally agreed 100% with what he said on Gameday and thought how awesome it would be to have more Alumni show their frustrations publicly. Because I bet if we would have played the second half of that game like we did the first half, there would be plenty of people agreeing with what Herbie said....

:shake:

Herby could have expressed his displeasure without calling the O-line "fat, slow, and lazy" or "the most underacheiving Offensive Line in 10 years".

Instead of showing some film and breaking the game down, Herby just threw shots left and right at everyone involved with the Program. I use to like him, but I think my opinion has changed.

It's not criticism, it's bashing 19, 20 years old kids and a coach who has done a hell of a lot for tOSU.

19 and 20 year olds are not kids they are young men and they need to know the truth. If someone called me lazy at that age I worked my tail off to prove that I wasn't. That's part of the problem in this country is that a 20 year old is a kid and bless his heart don't criticize his work ethic he might work a little harder....

I don't think I've watched more than 5 minutes of Gameday since 2007.

I tune in a few minutes before the games start to see the predictions. I find them humorous sometimes.

Aside from that, it's a bunch of bullshit and I'm not sure why people watch it.

Read BrutusBobcat's post. If you were to start posting some of the same BS Herbie pulled on tv on this board anonymously, you'd at least get a warning.

Herbie did it on national tv presumably because he thought it was part if his job to call 20 YOAs "fat, slow and lazy."

If you are inclined to post something like that about one of the young people on Ohio State's football team, please do so on the Scout board.

I don't think football players who are in better shape than 90+% of the population are the problem with this country.

And I suppose they are better off hearing something like that from a blowhard on tv than, say, the coaches that see them in practice every day?

Well they heard it all week leading up to the Minny game from all kinds of people and well 38-7 speaks for itself. People LOVE to prove other people wrong and sometimes criticism from the media is fuel to the fire...
