You dont see any resemblance there?
As you say, we have a good coach this year and suddenly the players mature and are one of the best teams.
You dont think them maturing had anything to do with Urban Meyer?
If Fickell were still Head Coach you think we would be 11-0?

11-0? maybe not.
9 or 10 wins? absolutely.

coaching is absolutely a part of it, so don't take this as downgrading what Urban has done.

but a big part of last year's mess is that y'all suddenly had to rely on guys that weren't supposed to contribute yet, and were forced to play young guys a LOT instead of in bringing them along slowly.

the result? a year well below your normal standards.
those guys after a year of trial by fire were now seasoned vets.

instead of learning by watching the older guys do it while they waited their turn, they had to learn by going out and making mistakes.

The only difference between last years team and this years team is the offensive and defensive playcalling instituted by Meyer, the depth of freshman recruits recruited by Meyer, and the change in conditioning instituted by Meyer.

Fickell is a great guy, but he was put in a very difficult place and wasn't (and still isn't ready) to be a head coach at a premier program. Being both under Tressel and Meyer will definitely pay dividends though.

To be fair

PSU's losing their kicker has cost them one game this year.

I think both coaches are deserving this year, but might give the nod to PSU's only because of off the field issues he had to deal with and holding the team together. If its purely on the field results, then OSU's coach wins.

Fuck being "fair" to Ped State.

The fucking award isn't for the coach that has the most improvement. It's not for the coach that caught lightening in a bottle. It's not for the coach that got lucky and ducked tOSU.

Well, it's not supposed to be anyway.

tOSU pays Urban more than any other coach in the B1G because he's a proven winner. It's fucking absurd that if he performs like he's paid to, somehow Blake O'Bejeesus is a better coach because he got dealt a shitty hand and won a couple more games. It's horseshit. If a coach dominates an entire conference he's the best coach. Recruiting is a big part of coaching in college. JT was the best recruiter and coach for a decade. It's a shame he didn't get recognized for it more often.

Pollack on Gameday just said that if undefeated Ohio State took the bowl ban last year, they'd still be #3 or worse in the BCS behind a 1 loss team this year because of their ugly wins :shake:

Would rather have those ugly wins than being prison-raped in a LOSS like Georgia was in Columbia.

Desmond Howard just gave credit to Nick Saban for the quote "I went for two, because I couldn't go for three." Douche.

for the sake of accuracy, he should have credited Saban with saying "i went for 2 because i never have a good kicker. i ain't wasting a scholarship on a pointless non-athlete like a fucking kicker."
