They are going to have to do something at catcher at some point. Roberto Perez is throwing out a terribly weak bat this year as well when he's got the chance.

Francisco Mejia may be closer than not (off to a hot start in AA), so that's always a possibility at some point this season

They're definitely gonna have to do something. They are getting ZERO production from the position. Perez is probably an adequate backup at the MLB-level, but Gomes is so awful, he's gonna have to play more than he should. Fuck Jonathan Lucroy forever.

Also, how the fuck was Byron Buxton ever considered a top-tier prospect? This fucking guy was ranked #1 in 2014, and #2 in 2015 & 2016 by Baseball America. So far at the MLB-level, he has been one of the worst hitters in all of baseball, and Yan Gomes-bad this year, .085/.140/.128, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 23 K in 47 ABs. In 474 ABs in parts of three seasons he's gone .207/.261/.371 with 12 HR, 44 RBI, 31 BB and 185 K. Awful.

Buxton makes Andy Marte look serviceable.

Though he's only 23 so he could still always pull his head out of his ass, but for sure right now he is looking like a guy who does well as minor league player but just can't square up with the MLB crowd.

I cannot see them doing anything at the catching position because they already have so much money invested there. The answer is going to have to come from the minors. Regarding Lucroy I am sort of happy that that trade never went through because we would have never re-signed him and we would not have gotten Miller last season.

The indians paid a premium to lock in gomes before his arbitration years to protect against his cost skyrocketing if he put up 2013 numbers again. but his contract is really not cost prohibitive to the point of not trying to upgrade the position. his contract is 14th in mlb for catchers at about $4.5 million.

Not to mention it wouldn't cost much to upgrade his production. He's been one of the worst 3 offensive players in MLB since 2015 in a lot of metrics.

I think both of you know where the Indians payroll stands right now and I do not think that Dolan is going to shell out any more money and that is the reason I think we are going to have to live with Perez and Gomes. I would like for them to move Meja up to AAA to see what he does there.

Oh, did I mention that Gomes hit a double yesterday:wink:

My point was pretty much ANYONE is a better offensive player than Gomes has been, thus, random 500K salary guy is an upgrade. That's not actual money.

Raking what? Were there hotdog wrappers on the field from dime-a-dog night or something?
