I think he's only ever been a 2B and 1B in his career, I mean, that's pretty limited. (I checked, he's played 4 games at 3rd) Now, I guess, if there's a real issue at 3B you've got Gio or Yandy Diaz.... but "Utility means Utility and isn't Michael Martinez more valuable at that point? Or Erik Gonzalez at some point.

And really, if Brantley is the main concern here, why don't you just sign Angel Pagan or whoever and leave your in his prime all star 2B at 2B. (not to mention, isn't that why they got Austin Jackson? I mean, you replaced Davis with Jackson, Almonte replaces Crisp - who was only there to replace Almonte in the post season... plus Naquin, Chis, Guyer AND Brantley)

I get veteran leadership, maybe, but, I assume the guy wants to actually, you know... play?

Good points. I was thinking he had played more at 3B but must have had him confused with someone else.

Yandy Diaz and Erik Gonzalez both definitely offer more position versatility, in house.

I'd rather see Michael Martinez never take another AB in a Tribe uniform again though. He's "useful" pretty much as a situational defensive sub only (since he can somewhat play almost anywhere)

Fair enough on Martinez as to your preference, but it seems like situational defense is what they need. Not a 1B that we have 2 of and they'll have built in off days, so I don't see the need for a roster spot to keep kip fresh. If one of the other 2 play their way on to the team instead, it's certainly fine with me...

The door is certainly open for Gonzalez/Diaz. I'd guess Gonzalez has the edge heading into spring, considering he's a bit more capable defensively. Definitely would rather see a younger guy get a chance than Martinez though.

Brantley going to start the season on the DL. I sure thought that his shoulder would have come around by now. I know they do not want to any chances but this seems to be a very looong recovery period. Just curious to see who they will start in LF when the season starts. I also do not know if we will ever see the Brantley of old.
