LEVELAND, Ohio - Jose Ramirez passed his physical and officially became a rich man Tuesday, but is there anybody else on deck?
The Indians confirmed Tuesday morning that they had agreed to a five-year, $26 million extension with Ramirez. News of the dealbroke over the weekend, but the Indians wouldn't confirm it until he passed a physical.
The deal, which includes a $2 million signing bonus, covers all three of Ramirez's arbitration years (2018-20) plus his first year of free agency (2021). The deal also includes club options for 2022 and 2023.
it will be interesting to see who starts at third base on opening day… I am rooting for Yandy..
That is sort of what I was thinking. Just have him knock down the balls a couple weeks at third until Kip is ready to go and then send him down to Columbus to work on his fielding and getting him ready to take Santana's position next season. Dolan can only afford so much and Santana will probably ask EE money.hmmmm.... I dunno.
I only am to see him hit. And I think the Indians want to figure out ways to get him AB's for that reason, but... I don't know if he can handle the spot - though hopefully its only a couple weeks. My guess is, their longer term idea for him is to not resign Santana if he can really rake and move him into that 1B/DH platoon.

They're stupid if they don't try to re-sign Carlos. I have been hard on the guy at times, but he gets on base, hits for power that in this iteration of an era is good, and scores runs. He has monster slumps, but he's a rally extender too because he works counts. He's not the Lindor at Catcher people were hoping for, but he doesn't grow on trees either.hmmmm.... I dunno.

Rhymes with del Monte?Yandy's not on the 40 man roster. Who do you want to expose to waivers to bring him up for 20 or so AB? My bet is on Ushela starting the season at 3B.
A couple hours after you posted this he hit a 3 run homer to RF but you probably know that now. I guess it is wishful thinking because as Zippercat says below he probably will be sent down because it looks like Chiz will be on the DL so we will need to keep the pineapple man, who has options, on the 40 man roster.Right now, he doesn't have the power to be a conventional 1B/DH.

I do not know how much money Dolan is going to put forth for next season. I guess if we win the World Series he may try and meet Santana's demands which I think are going to be very significant. You have to remember also that Kip gets a big pay boost up to $14 mil next season. I just cannot see Dolan spending tooooo much money to keep both of those guys.
