It very well end up being a buyer's market this year with so many guys taking one year arbitration deals and teams just deciding to wait for the mega free agent class next year.
I guess this might make sense if Santana would walk after this season. I can see him wanting some serious cash (maybe not quite as serious as Bautista) but it might make some sense with the Brantley unknown. However, I just cannot see Dolan putting out that much more money this season.

And now multiple sources reporting Joey Bats is close to a 1 year deal with Blue Jays that includes some kind of mutual option for a second year. Sometimes I think the Indians allow themselves to be used in these situations to gain favors with the agents. Maybe that's how they've been able to get veteran guys on one year deal?

RIP, Marte Partay. :(

Condolences, @Zippercat

Thanks. I was at the game when Marte struck out the side against the Yankers at Progressive Field. (See pic at left.) It was probably the highlight of his ML career, a sad accomplishment for a 3B once, while in the Braves organization, thought to be one of the top 10 minor league prospects in baseball. He then bounced from Atlanta to the Boston, then Cleveland and, lastly, Pittsburgh farm systems as a classic AAAA player. His futility mirrored the Indians attempts of that era to find a 3B who was at least a replacement level player. RIP Marte the Parte!
