All I have to say is fuck you Hue Jackson and Todd Haley. The better the Browns play the more I like the Bruce Arians plan of keeping Kitchens and Williams as coordinators with a legit HC. For the first time in my memory the Browns seem to be trending in the right direction so the most Browns thing to do would be to blow up the coaching staff.
While I would love to see this triad, I do not think Williams will stick around if he is not named the HC. I do not know where he would get another HC job but I just do not think he will stay if he is not named the HC of the Browns.

Williams is probably the biggest sticking point right now. I don't know that he can parlay this into a a HC job elsewhere so I don't really understand leaving out of spite to go get the same job someplace else. If he were to stay in Cleveland as the DC I can see them making him the highest paid DC as a thank you. Personally I would rather stay with the very promising defense that I built than go someplace else and have to start from scratch for less money. If he turned the Browns into a top 5 defense next year he would probably have a better shot at an HC gig in 2020. Between the cap space and picks there should be plenty of new toys for all the coaches to play with next year. This is the first year I can see them taking the BPA in the draft. They can use the first rounder to shore up a position, but there isn't really a glaring position that they need to fill with the early picks.

OT, WR, LB and interior Dline depth are pretty big negatives for us right now.

I wouldn't want to change anything that would have saved Hue Jackson's job, but if the ref's hadn't screwed the Browns over in the Raiders game they would actually have a legit shot to win the North. As it stands the Broncos are trending down so we'll see what Mayfield looks like in prime time a mile high, the Bengals have cratered, and who knows what to expect from the Ravens. We beat them once before we had an NFL offense. The Steelers have NE, @NO, and then a gimmie against the Bungles. As it stands the Browns would have to win out, the Steelers would have to lose out, and the Ravens would need to drop 2 including the last game against the Browns. If the Browns had 1 more win they would still need to win the next 3 games but the Steelers would just have to drop 2 very losable games.

Cool as that would have been to achieve this year... the team really needs another good draft and getting higher in the order is part of that.
The bad luck, NFL officiating, and Hue/Haley may move this team up quite a few picks and get some more studs. The difference is somewhere around 5-8 picks now.
NBA and Colts have proven tanking is a valid strategy, but it'd still be nice to finish on a high.

The gameplan for LA, Hou and now Den has been surprisingly simple on defense. Don't get upfield, fence Baker in and make him uncomfortable enough to have to slide and reset in the pocket all while forcing him to read and throw over the middle.

The height thing is looking like an issue.
