Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

I'm a loyal Browns' fan. Always have been. Always will be. I'll probably go to more games when they suck like they do now than when they're good (because the ticket will be harder to get). Yeah, I'm [censored]ed that they suck. I'm not happy with the direction the team is going. They're probably looking at 0-16. But I'm hopeful for the future and I'll be damned if I'm just going pretend not to care or stop going to the games. That's the overemotional, irrational talk... and I don't buy for one second that (1) you don't care or (2) that you're just going to stop spending money on merchadise or game tickets. So stop posturing...

Enlighten us. What reason could you possibly be hopeful for the future? This organization is swirling around the drain and it ain't gonna change.

As for "not caring", yeah, I'm at that point. Being a Browns fan the past two decades is akin to being in a bad relationship. You give and give and don't get shit in return. At some point you have to wise up. Being a sports fan is supposed to be for fun and entertainment. Well, at this point, there is zero fun or entertainment involved here. After 25 years, I've reached my boiling point. Call me whatever the fuck you want, I don't care. But if you're going to be the fan police, you're gonna be awfully busy because there's a helluva lot of us.

I'll continue to follow the team because I can't totally walk away, but I'm not getting emotionally involved until changes are made. The rebirth has been a slow death march from start to finish and two playoff appearances in twenty years is inexcusable.

1. Quick turnaournds are not unheard of in NFL history. Falcons, Jets, Saints, Cardinals, Bengals, etc.

2. The last time I thought the Browns would go 0-16 was in 2007 after the opening debacle against Pittsburgh. They won 10 of their last 15 games that year.

3. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

If I didn't have hope, I'd be some "fan" threatening to walk off into the sunset.

Mangini will make it to January

UPDATE: As a reader points out, Ray Rhodes was fired by the Eagles after the 1998 season, and then by the Packers after the 1999 season.

As noted above it has been done before after only one year so it's Lerner realizes he made a mistake, and I use that word very loosely, he should do the right thing for the Browns fans all over the world and let Mangini go.

I have been a Browns fan for over 50 years and never turned a Browns game off until last year that the past three Sundays. I will always be a Browns fan but that does not mean that I have to give money to Lerner or the Browns organization. In the last week, NFBuck has made a number of great points and I agree with every single one of them to those who take issue.

There's only one who seems to take issue and it seems to be more with my "fandom" than any actual opinions. The team is in shambles, there's no end of the futility in sight and I've finally reached my breaking point. Damn right I'm pissed, pissed enough that I'm done giving any money or support to the soccer fan running this circus.

There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more. He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness.

Until the day when [strike]Sipe[/strike] [strike]Byner[/strike] [strike]Ehlo[/strike] [strike]Mesa[/strike] [strike]Sabathia[/strike] LeBron will bring a championship to our city, all Cleveland fandom is contained in these two words, "Wait and hope".
