Charlie Strong (former coach)

Ha, Ha.....so true. Still I would be vey concerned if I were a Short Horn fan. Can't believe they let Mack stick around as long as he did. They just sat and watched their program get passed up in state, starting with TCU a few years ago and now aTm and Baylor. Then the whole Saban saga and how that HC search went down...what a mess.

The funniest thing is how delusional the horn fans are right now. They've essentially been utterly mediocre since the late 1970s with only a very brief (2004-2008) window of relevance that was fueled by two stud (one of whom was Simple Jack) quarterbacks. The notion that it is somehow the natural order of things to compete for the NC every year simply does not stack up historically. And now they have resurgent aggy and bible aggy programs in state, OU operating on a high level and the SEC making serious recruiting inroads into the state. I just don't see it happening the way they are all absolutely certain that it will. The meltdowns will be glorious.

Longhorn is a bit like domer during the Weis years who celebrated the recruiting national championship every year. Only with Texas, they celebrate the annual release of AD revenue and profitability. In both cases, it never seems to translate the following Fall.

Texas Longhorns Mess Up Coin Toss vs. UCLA, Coach Charlie Strong Is Furious
Considering this is college football, the UCLA Bruins probably weren't prepared to throw the Texas Longhorns off guard by choosing to defer after winning the coin toss.

Apparently, no one told the Longhorns captains that deferring means they have the option to receive in the second half, so they elected to kick.

According to Bruin Report Online, the referee even tried explaining the situation to the Texas captain, but he still wanted to kick.

Texas football team drug testing rate doubles under Charlie Strong

The number of drug tests administered to University of Texas football players has skyrocketed under first-year coach Charlie Strong, according to university data obtained by the American-Statesman through an open records request.

According to university records, an average of 104 tests were administered annually to football players from 2010 to 2013, the last four years under former coach Mack Brown. A total of 188 tests were administered the first eight months this year under Strong. At an annualized rate, that’s more than double the previous four years.
