Charlie Strong (former coach)

Good thing Ohio State snagged their most successful coach this millennium from a powerhouse conference.

Who you talking about? The guy the Buckeye's hired from Youngstown State (and who won 1 National Championship and 6 Big Ten championships); the guy already working at OSU who never had a winning season as a head coach and lost his only bowl game; or the last guy who was working in a broadcast booth when hired and has yet to win any championship or bowl game for OSU? :sarcastic:

Off to Texas and honestly this is a good hire for them and one of the worst for us. Now that Strong has some connections into Ohio high schools and a bigger name behind him he might be one to look out for for in state guys moving forward. Not saying we will be fighting Texas regularly for OH kids but it will happen.

I don't know that Charlie is the sure thing that everybody assumes he is. He's a good coach, but he's not a politician like Mack was. He reportedly doesn't like schmoozing with boozers, doners, and the public. That could end up being a thorn in his side. There's a lot more to that job in Austin than Louisville-- Longhorn Network, etc...

Wow, go 24 and 2 and there's no love out there for you? They say Jesus bombed in Galilee.

Agree.

But he will irritate a lot of folks when he starts bringing in all those kids from Miami.
He won't have any room.. he'll own everyone in the state of Texas
with a couple Okies coming south
He won't even have to travel... recruits and families will come to his house

I'm really kinda wondering about this. Strong is known as a great recruiter, but so is Sumlin, Briles, and Stoops (if he stays). All those guys have inroads into the high school coaches and have for several years. I will be a good hire but I don't think its the slam dunk most will. He's going to struggle the first couple of years. He still seems like more of a fit at one of the Florida schools not Texas. I will be interested to see how he handles the media, the time suck (LHN) commitments, and the politics. Mack had said he was LHN from 10am to 3pm on Mondays. Also the fact that Strong didn't/doesn't have any of the big money donors in his corner should be interesting to say the least.

Dennis Dodd I know but still decent read http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...hoice-for-longhorns-but-texas-doesnt-do-solid

just my thoughts, this potentially helps us in Florida, although how many times did we offer a guy that had a Louisville offer and he choose Louisville (Dominic Brown is about the only one I can think, and thats because he was promised to be a QB but ended up being an RB)

I'm sure that all the coaches that Texas burned through from 78-98, looked good on paper coming in. Winning will take care of everything for Strong, but if it comes, will it come fast enough. Hell, it took Mack six years to get them into a BCS game. What happens if a guy who hates schmoozing boosters takes six years. And let's not overlook the race/wife issue. The only black and blonde combination that a lot of these crusty old Texas boosters want to see is on their computer screens.

I can definitely see the natives getting very restless if they're not in the playoff by year three.

Yeah, he's on a much shorter leash than Mack was when he took the job. Those fools expect to compete for national championships every year. He'll probably get a freebie in 2014, but if he doesn't get them on a playoff track quickly, they'll turn on him. That success they experienced from 2004-09 was the worst thing to happen to them.

Speaking of Mack.. did yall know that he's done more for minority coaches than anyone in the last 16 years (atleast thats what some dude named Bucky Godbolt keeps saying).
